Odd cracks in paint - Style 108

Post by darkwheels » Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:38 pm

Folks, I've had my E86 for 6 months and just noticed fine cracks have appeared these past couple of weeks on the centres of just one of my Style 108's.
They're mostly on the spokes just beyond the wheel bolt hole, and right at the point of the spoke.

I've never seen wheels go like this. It looks like just a fault appearing in paint, but could it be pointing to a structural problem in the wheel?
It's an odd one, but I'm just putting it out there in case anyone has seen it before on these wheels.

TIA.

That's exactly how it started on my 224's before it began flaking off.

Oh my god, something else to start worrying about. :headbang: Could it be incompatible paint to lacquer. I seem to remember reading on the silk forum that the red paint bubbles due to something similar.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

The powder coater told me that he'd changed the powder he was using which resulted in many comebacks due to all of them flaking off. Buy cheap buy twice I suppose.

Quite true.

Thanks for the info. This is pushing me to do what I always intended - paint the centres anthracite.
