The dreaded Increased battery discharge warning

Update, mine is booked in for Monday, earliest I could get. Handbrake will engage and disengage but still gives the error on the dash. As a precaution I'm not driving it till it's sorted 😔

All sorted now so thanks guys

Paid £129 including delivery and a 10% voucher code for a 70ah Varta AGM battery from Tayna batteries as this is the same as the original and the one they recommended.

My local Indy fitted and coded it for another £20 so good result all round

Did you get the dreaded parking brake bong and need a software update? Just got mine back this week. Garage tried telling me a software update wouldn't sort it and would need some new parts to the mechanism. Told them to do what I asked and update the software after the new battery and lo and behold, all sorted now...

When the mechanic was doing his stuff with the computer there were a few bongs and he tested the windows were working which he said was the thing that often didn’t work after renewing the battery. All is well and never mentioned any need of update

One strange thing though for about 6 months now I have been getting an Amber engine warning light intermittently appearing. Told when last MOT that it was something to do with engine emissions but as it passed there was nothing to worry about. It hasn’t come on since the battery change.

The dreaded Increased battery discharge warning

Morning all, looked at an E89 yesterday which had the ‘increased battery discharge’ warning, am I interpreting this thread correctly that a new battery will be required?

Car has had very little use in recent months, but I’m guessing the damage has been done?

I would budget for it but try a trickle charge repair and see what happens

Car of that age who knows what battery was fitted when..time to look at the battery…but of course if it’s sulphated up then..

Good charge and monitor is the key…

Nanu wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:35 pm I know this has been the subject of several posts but I have never understood fully what this problem is and how to cure it. Can someone in very laymans terms explain how I can travel 3 miles to my local supermarket with no warning then on my return the warning is there. Sometimes I can go a week without using the car and no warning then for no reason the next day it appears. sometimes I have to reset it and sometimes it just goes away withou having to do anything. The car is 5 years old so it shouldn't be the battery but would a battery charger help?
Once a battery has been discharged it'[s never the same again.; You cannot let it go below a certain point I think it's 12V. if it goes below that ever it's effectively done unless you open it up and fill it with epsom salts and distilled water or put it on an industrial 200A charger which boils it getting rid of the sulfation.

Once you start having batter issues just buy a new battery then get a charger and charge it every week. I put mine on charge every weekend for 4-6 hours. Unless you use the car 4+ times a week and journeys are bare minimum 30+ mins 1 way. Short journeys and irregular use means charge it every week. If you let it get low once it's pretty much done.

Thanks all, I’ve budgeted for a new battery.

I popped it on trickle charge when I got home, but the warning was gone when I picked the car up today and has stayed off all afternoon.

I’ll test the voltage properly this week
