N58 Engine.

Post by Spriteracer » Thu Apr 07, 2022 9:31 am

Morning all. My sister is looking to buy a 2019ish 340i touring with the N58 engine. They seem to review pretty well but does anyone have experience of them day to day? She is replacing a high mileage E92 330i and loves the N52. Many thanks.

I think that is the B58 mate.
Not had one but they (so far) seems to be much better than their predecessors, the N54 and N55.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

Not used as a daily but done 5.5k almost all on forum runs or weekends away so probably not driven how your sister would drive it

Overall fuel consumption is great for what it is. I’ve not reset the trip since getting it, average mpg just below 30. Gearbox is a delight, always on power if you want it to be or easier cruiser if desired. Power is endless if you want to drive it like that. Overtaking done in a blink of an eye but very well behaved in normal driving conditions.

You’ll find multiple articles saying this is the engine BMW have got spot on.

G29 M40i Thundernight with Ivory interior, all option packs (here for a while, hopefully )
G29 M40i Misano Blue all option packs (Gone 26k of fun)
E89 35iS, Valencia Orange, Design Pure Traction pack (Gone)
    E89 23i sDrive, Silver (Gone)

I’ve had a 340 touring since 2016 , bought brand new . It’s been faultless since I got it apart from when the gorilla of a mechanic in bmw Liverpool broke the oil filter housing during a service .
It’s a great car and has been used most days for everything from the daily commute to euro trips and it’s now my tip run car as we’ve moved and I have a house to renovate so it also doubles as a small van ! It’s coped well with everything I’ve asked of it .
I can’t fault it to be fair .

Thanks very much all and I stand corrected on the number - had just read a review as well !
It seems real world experience is pretty good. I'll pass on the recommendations.
