Staggered set up UHP Tyre test

Post by sars » Mon Feb 21, 2022 5:24 pm

Latest UHP tyre test, and it's on the Supra with a staggered set up so very relevant, especially for the G29

Hi Sars, can you post some sort of link for this. On some apple devices some posts just come up blank and I’d like a look at this one please

Great to have a test on something closer to the G29s/E89s and E85s than a test on a Golf.

Not really a surprise how good the new Conti is in the ever ongoing arms race.

I would have fitted them when I got my 437Ms but they just were not available at that point. I’ve never had a negative experience with Contis.

I’ll definitely try them next time, the tyre tester’s views on the Michelin feedback encapsulates my view, albeit on a more modest scale.

Of course both Goodyear and Michelin have new versions this year so I guess this is the first not final review..hopefully we’ll get another review with a similar config car when they are released.

      That’s a dam fine colour car…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Thanks Sars, I do like a good tyre video and I’d missed this. :online2long:

I’m surprised the Goodyear did so badly in the wet, I was extremely impressed by them in wet weather and would happily fit them to a fun daily based on my own experience.

the GY supersport isnt a wet weather specialist, its a very good dry and trackday tyre. i'd run it on a weekend/track car no problems. for day to day driving which might involve some wet conditions, the GY F1 assy5 is the one to go for.

I was very surprised how much better the new conti is, but then, as B21 says, with new michelin pilot sport 5 and GY assy6 coming out this year theres going to be a triple test coming on i feel.

Had a look last night at pricing for Conti SC7 rears, £238 each for 275/35R19, not horrendously expensive and no more than the F1 A5's or the PS4S

At least Jon finally recognised the amount of reports the Bridgestones get for poor wear rate...so they may be a little cheaper, but wear out twice as fast, meaning they're much more expensive per mile than the Michelin/Continental/Goodyear UHPs.
      Trigger’s Z4MC
Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.

I was thinking that too. The 1.5mm less starting point didn’t fill me with joy. Especially given these cars need their tyres changed well before any wear marker indication if you want to stay facing the right way
