I think you've just proved John's point - that Beetle is nearly 8 years old... :poke:

The Beetle is worth more than it was 8 years ago as well. Men math dictated that I needed a car that depreciated, hence the M. Although looking at some of them for sale, they seemed to be doing ok as well at the moment.

pvr wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 9:05 pm Craig - they don’t call them inspections anymore. The car calls it a “major service” on the display and in the details it lists plugs and an oil service (and an mot 2 months early …).

Will find something for next month to keep the MOT in April and not bring it forward.
Yeah, thought that might be the case, just like Mercedes and VW/Audi....Major and Minor Mercedes call it these days
Thankfully our gla suv amg250 has the service pack so we don't need to worry for a couple of years yet.
They know how to charge too.
And we didn't even go for the full fat a35 or a45 amg model.

One of my mates was surprised how expensive the Oil change on his M4 Comp was!!
It wasn't cheap either.
Good old M "tax" still at work, haha

Yeah, thats always been a kicker, but easy to see why, with some of the many differences there are on Ms.
Still doesn't justify some parts costs.

pvr wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 7:24 pm The X5M needs a major service, 4 years old (only 12k miles but anyway).

I called a couple of dealers (Sytner and Vines) and with the usual BMW membership discount they quote the exact £863.44.

Am I assuming there is a fixed price thing going on here? Previously the service costs between different groups would be hundreds apart.
Same with my 2018 Mini cooper S 4 years old this april only 15k miles l and the service includes replacing spark plugs. Used to be that they got replaced after about 60k miles going to try and ask for them not to be done and see what response I get. Al Replaced micofilters my self on any BMW with filter bought at a discount Have a warranty on mini(provided by BMW dealer that I bought the car from not BMW insurance policy) going to check service requirements and see if it will remain in force if I take to indie I use for my z4.
My last experience of dealers(for the mini) in April 2021 for a brake fluid change was that different dealers did offer different prices- but this may be a mini thing only. When Z4 wanted new front discs and pads both BMW dealers same price. Bought parts from Costwolds saved £70 and had them fitted at Indy £80 labour saving. He also fitted microfilter and air filter at same time at no charge.

Not a bad idea actually, I had only checked a 30 mile radius.

Going far and making a weekend of it would work as well.

Pondrew wrote: Sat Feb 12, 2022 1:42 pm t wouldn't surprise me if BMW dealers have a chart of how much the car was new, which is directly comparable to the amount they charge for servicing. Rip-off merchants the lot of 'em.
They do; the hourly rate to service my M5 was about £40 more than my 330d; I guess it's down to the training required to look after the respective vehicles.

I'm not sure I'd agree they're rip-off merchants, that's their business, to look after expensive cars; try going to a Lambo dealer and asking the cost of a valve service!?!?

So far, only achieved saving of £80. It is interesting that northern dealers and southern ones seem to use the same online service quotation tool. The pricing comes out the same to the penny …

It's only property prices that are different, mate. You can't expect 'Northern' dealers to give a discount because you've had a hard day 'down't pit'.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!
