⌛E89: Dynamic Turn Signal

Post by RobbiZ4 » Wed Jan 19, 2022 7:00 pm

Hi guys,.

I just wanted to bring this "old" story to your attention.

In May 2017 I joined a discussion about this topic with pro's and con's and if this is possible at all on our E89. I once again got triggered to find a solution, that could be presented to the public 15 months later.

Here the whole story, translated 4U:
https://www-zroadster-com.translate.goo ... st-2738075

The different sequences simply can be designed in an Excel sheet. Up to now a bunch of about 20 different sequences exists and can be simply selected on each added control unit per tail light cluster.

My currently most preferred setup with a dimmed background:

Robbi, sometimes I think you have too much spare time on your hands!

Was their a final production level circuit board / driver?

Much as I like the Audi-esque indicator it seems an awful lot of work, given that in the UK BMW drivers for a period never used their indicators.
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..

Yes, I agree.

Unfortunately not. It's indeed handwork and will take some days to reproduce it.
Beginning with the following post from May 2018, you will see the assembling of the external control unit as well as of the "dremeled" cluster:

Yes I read it all, but felt the need to get in a warm bath with some razor blades..does that translate accross the semi-permeable membrane of Google Translate? :tumbleweed:

Pity about a proper board..may have felt like cracking out one of my 3 dremels!

Seems complicated.
I would have chucked out the led board and used LM3914 bar graph driver IC and replaced all the leds.
Easier still just use tape led with the built in driver.
Still problem would be board monitoring for faults.

Well, that sounds easier.
But this solution is able to work as OEM as well as dynamic version. The first option is important for the bi-annually German TUEV, for curious cops as well as in any technical fault situation. There is an implied fall back to OEM, if any issue occurs.

I notice, with all the spare time I have, that you seem to have a compulsion for being generally unpleasant and argumentative to many posters.

Why don’t you do something positive and constructive for a change.

Hey, it was (genuinely) meant to be friendly (if a little sarcastic) banter. But now you have decided to be generally unpleasant and argumentative.

So, ironic comment for 2022 No 2. (I did say so far!)

And as you're being so unpleasant, can you confirm that you're the guy that was ripped out a new arsehole in this thead:
