A key feature of the E89

It's simply this: - those dinky little rear side windows; as they eliminate a common blind spot.
2-seater soft-tops never seem to have them and as a result often have a significant blind spot from the hood fabric.
Its a key reason for me why I'm not taken with the new Z4.
Of course there is no problem if you have the roof down, however its not always possible in this rainy country...

To alleviate blind spots, try setting the exterior mirrors very wide. Or those small auxiliary wide mirrors.

G29 has lovely blond spot detection tech to help with that.

Not starting a war! I loved my e89 and yes those little windows were useful.

Rear window is pointless in the G29. I sat in one i thought very claustrophobic, especially black roof lining..

It’s funny. When the e89 came out……everyone who has an e85 slammed it. Now the g29 is up and running everyone he has an e89/e85 slams it.

I’ve had e85, e89 and now g29. I loved them all. Each has its quirks. Saying that, the g29 is the best one yet. Only one I would say comes close is e85/e86 M Models. Comfort wise though…..g29 is far better.

I don't doubt the G29 is the best yet and I was very tempted by the 6 cylinder model, however for now I've still got the E89 under my skin and genuinely think it's one of the best looking BMWs of recent times. And yes I'm a sucker for those tiny rear windows as part of that design as well as for practical reasons. That said, we do have blind spot warning on a Suzuki Vitara and it is pretty damned good so I expect BMW have got it working very well indeed.

"Best" is entirely subjective. My E89 is best for me based on my preferences, circumstances and lifestyle. Your G29 is undoubtedly best for you, based on your preferences, circumstances and lifestyle, otherwise you would have a different car instead. Same with E85/6 owners.

In many ways, a McLaren 720S would be the best car for me. The only problem is that I wouldn't be able to afford my mortgage as well so I would have to live in it. This would make my life miserable and the McLaren 720S is therefore not a good car for me.

The whole "which Z is best" argument that pops up on a weekly basis is just completely pointless. You might as well argue about whether t-shirts are better than polo shirts.

(oh and I was not trying to inflame anything - my apologies if it came over otherwise. I should have used the Boxster as a neutral reference point as that has blind spots the Cayman does not. best wishes to all Z car lovers

I’d love a G29. I’m certain is a fine motor.

But I find that new BMWs aren’t worth the money. For that money, I can get a great second hand 911. And then there’s the pesky warranty, which in itself is crucial to have, but gets in the way of mods. At least in America. And finally the mods themselves. A new model is still getting tested.

For now the E89 works for me. But I’m sure in a few years time I’ll be getting grief from wifey for already looking at another car.

If anyone is disappointed with their G29, you can gift it to me. I won’t complain.
