Favourite car you've owned vs Favourite car you have driven, vs Car you've most desired to own
As title,
What's the favourite car you've ever owned(and why)
Compared to your favourite car you've ever Driven
And what's the car you have most desired to own?
For me, it goes like this.....
My z4m, as its ability and enjoyment still puts a smile on my face time and again
(Not to mention the excellent times had driving it on Forum runs etc, and those people I have met through my time owning it, and it's predecessor)
Bit of a cheat here, as can't split them,
Favourite car(s) driven are
Porsche 911 gt3 RS, sublime handling, felt like its honed from one piece of metal, so to speak
And the Lamborghini Murcielargo lp640 when new out, due to its sound, especially on down changes, loved the e gear box, even if some critics didn't, and its ability to hit nearly 200mph is something i'll never forget (car could actually do 212mph officially, but not where I drove it, sadly.
Car I wanted to own.... Many,
But probably the Lotus Carlton, given I was a big Vauxhall fan back in the day, and this cars uniqueness.
What about yours folks?

I probably own my favourite car. Of all the cars I have driven. But then I have driven surprisingly few cars, for someone who likes to drive. I also genuinely enjoy driving the wheels off my Mazda2 Capella.
I posed the question some time back. Do you like cars or do you like driving. Me I like driving far more than I like cars.
If I ever tier of the ///MR then I have thought a DB9 would be nice. But I am not one for test driving a car unless I intend to by one in the immediate future. So until the day comes I guess I won't know if I really like them or not.

Favorite car I have had is my Z4. I just love to drop the top and go for a spin. It was really a dream car coming true.
And it is my favorite car I have driven. Then again, it is not as if I have driven Porsches or any other high performance car.
But...
I really would love to own a new generation Miata. Love the looks, love the size, everytime I read about them there is nothing but praise for the handling.

I did a track day a few years ago where you do a few laps in a few cars & the one I was most looking forward to was actually the most disappointing to drive - it was some model of Ferrari (I’m sorry I genuinely don’t remember which one)
The car that day that impressed me the most on the track - bmw i8
But the mid 20 something me would still probably want to drive the Ferrari just for the looks I’d get off the ladies

My favourite car that I owned was a Porsche 928 which was the ultimate long distance high speed cruiser. The one that got away was an Alpina B5S which was probably the spiritual successor to the 928 but unfortunately we couldn't agree on a suitable price for the Mercedes SL that I needed to part ex.
Like PointedMarlin I was also interested in a BMW i8 (second hand) but as an early seventies driver I had concerns that I might not be able to get in and out of it in a couple of years time. Three years later I bought a Z4 which shows the inconsistencies in my thinking

Favourite I've owned is easy - my MC.
But I did spend a day driving Maseratis around Millbrook in 2008 and would love a Quattroporte!
I grew up dreaming of a Ferrari Daytona, but have got over that! They may have been the quickest car tested by Motor/Autocar back in the day but aren't as quick as an MC!
My biggest disappointment was a 1987 Sierra Cosworth at a Silverstone track day - XR4i was much better to drive and didn't blow a head-gasket!

Best ever owned and never to leave - my 911, better investment than anything else I have done
Would like to add a Ruf Turbo. My 740 and M were equally but different great cars, the E38 the best looking of all 7 series.
Deepest disappointment and shortest ownership - landrover Discovery, terrible.

Love my M Roadster and don't think I'll ever sell it. The best car I've ever driven is a Lambourghini Urus, which is like a high speed therapy session but the car I always come back to is P00504R. Even better if Mr Mikkola was driving it.

Best car owned was my 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Brilliant car; 280bhp out of the box, the 4wd system was superb. From A to B it would still be difficult to keep up with one.
Best car driven was a Mk2 Group N Escort. Seat of the pants nuts and so much fun.
When I was younger a 1980's 911 turbo was my dream car. Now it would be a 1972 Toyota Celica (RA22) as it was our family car as a kid. I adored that car. If I could find one I would get one.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.
F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

This is a good one. I love my ///M because this is the one I have fun in now but I also loved my first two cars which were a 76 Capri and a 79 Cortina not because they were fast but because I was so young and I could just get in them and drive, give my mates sister ( my wife) and her friends a lift somewhere but the car I actually wanted would’ve been an XR2i back then but i couldn’t afford one and the insurance.

Favourite car you've owned vs Favourite car you have driven, vs Car you've most desired to own
This is a funny thread....
Best car I have ever owned is my Z4 3.0SE... absolutely loved it, was single at the time and spent weekends flying round the countryside... far and away the most fun I've had in a car (err, well, most fun "driving a car", anyway!).
Fave car I have driven.... Z4 again... never liked driving other people's cars and never a fan of experience days.
Car I have most desired to own.... a Rover 200.... I was 17 at the time and really REALLY wanted one... never did get one though (good thing prob, as they were crap).

E92 335i for both the first points. The Z4 35i comes close but I like the sleeper aspect of the 335i, it looks like any other rep mobile but performs like a sports car.
I'm completely sold on BMWs in general but the only car I have any real lust for is an AMG GT. They are just a step above anything BMW will ever make, they look perfect and sound amazing.

If it was just on pleasure with no value for money then the c63 is the favourite car I have owned- Noise/Na Power/Diff/Practical. But living with a running on a shoe string then it would be a clio 172 back in 2008.
Caterham round Brands Hatch has got to be the favorite car I have ever driven.
My next fun car will be an Lotus Exige- the only semi-ish modern car that I would want to own.
