Keep mine in my codpiece, very tight fit mind.

Just think of how much tin foil you'd go through over the course of a year and the environmental impact of that
Erm, you do realise you could use the same piece of tin foil ad nauseum?
If you're really careful not to tear it. Another money saving tip would be to buy a £1m house and hang old sheets or towels in the windows to save on curtains/blinds/shutters. Then not only would it look like you keep a small stash of heroin around the house, but also like you live in a unexpectedly expensive crack den.

Tear it? Just line a small unused box with it, voila. With the money saved put an extra litre of petrol in the car.

As I said, just tried this because I’m having a boring day today. Not using this method every day. Got a radio blocking box at home for this and many other purposes.

Just my attempt at light hearted humour, apologies if anyone thought I was looking for a genuine debate about whether wrapping car keys in tin foil is a good idea :tumbleweed:

Sorry for causing misunderstanding from my side as well. I know you were joking about how meaningless the boring things I've tried today. What I tried to say in that post is that I've tried this and it can block the signal, and I think majority of those signal blocking box/pouch etc. are simply two layers of fabric with a layer of kitchen foil between them.

Put your keys in the microwave ( don’t switch it on ) it will act as a faraday cage

This all defeats the purpose of the key.

I know for a fact that most modern keys stop working when not moved for a few minutes. You can try it. Just leave your key next to car for 5 mins and you will see it will no longer open or start the car.
Land Rover has a particular bad security system for some reason. It is also a very desirable car to steal and take abroad. I’m really surprised landrover haven’t upped their security.

This is from an article in 2019.

The bmw key actually stops transmitting after 2 mins. Hence it is possible to lock a key in the car if you’ve left it in there unmoved for more than 2 mins as the car doesn’t know the key is there.

I'm ashamed to say a few weeks back I left my key in the car overnight whilst on a night shift. (12 hours)
Car was unlocked when I returned to it, so not sure why if the above is correct,

Land Rover gets stolen and shipped abroad so owner claims on insurance and buys another one. Call me cynical but why would they increase the security and kill the golden goose

I get it's quite easy to believe into the big conspiracy story but trust me, JLR is not happy about this. A bad customer experience is not worth selling an additional car as the company losses way more in the long term...

Because you left unlocked? You couldn’t lock it as you left the key inside! ;)
Car won’t lock with an active key inside. It will lock of you leave the key idle for 2 mins and then leave the car and lock it with your spare.
That can happen when you go on long trips and take both keys with you.
