Iron fallout remover

Hi all my son has a Civic Type r fn2, unfortunately he let his rear brake pads wear away so the backing was touching the disc....metal on metal, I have changed the pads for him, no harm done.
This has now left the wheel coated in metal particles and is awful to remove. I have tried wheel cleaner iron fallout remover etc etc the faalout remover turns the particles purple but doesn't remove much at all.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

are you sure they havent just burnt into the laquer.. metal on metal filings would get red hot and would leave a pretty much unrecoverable mark in the clear coat

yep theres a spray on wheel cleaner that turns those bits purple and dissolves them , bilt hamber ,, springs to mind , but asda do a version at about a fiver and its great .

thats the stuff , but obviously you can probably get it local , that was just a link to show the product , not the seller

I occasionally machine some metal and keep a big magnet nearby to “hoover up” metal filings. Not sure if this applies to your situation.

Fair enough brillomaster......currently isolating due to covid so looking for something to do!! i do like a clean car even if it's not mine!! Z is tucked away in the garage til March!

Can you post up a high resolution close up of a section of the wheel?

I owuld do True-Blue but my son is back to work now after his isolation. There are loads of metal particles on the spokes and rim, I have never seen anything like it before hence the post.

Zee1 , Sorry can't offer cleaning advice but if it was my son. I would be sure to charge him for both the pads and the cleaning. Hopefully this might teach him a lesson to be more attentive to car maintenance.? Hope you get it sorted.

If it’s metal to metal, chances are high mr. Tourette is correct. The heated filings damage the top layer of the coat on the wheels, burning into them and then solidifying again once cooled. Removing them is nigh impossible with regular products and would usually require a refurb (acid dip, blasting and respray/powdercoat).

We use either Iron Sniper for normal to slightly more contaminated wheels, or Sidero by Labocosmetica for seriously fouled wheels. The latter is a bit more expensive, but it’s a gel which allows the product to really sit and do its work properly.

Good luck, and if possible post some close ups of the damage done
