F90 M5
Having purchased my 35i Z4 6 months ago as a weekend car along side my X5 daily driver I thought I was completely sorted. But after a couple of months of owning the Z4 I started to missed the power and acceleration when driving the X5. So I looked at upgrading the X5 to one of the higher power variants but quickly realised that I don't actually need the 4 wheel drive capabilities and space that the X5 offers.
So I test drove an M5 and was instantly sold! I just love the power and the Jekyll-and-Hyde personas that can be instantly dialed up using the cool red m1 and m2 buttons. It's an extremely comfortable luxury car loaded with tech and enough space for a family or 4 adults but can also be an insane drive when the mood takes with an awesome soundtrack from the quad exhausts. I got mine for around half of the new price. 3 years old with 37k km. It has full leather (including the dash which I really like), HK hifi, Msport exhaust and can even carry two mountain bikes.
I do get some comments from my car mates (who mostly drive 15 year old 911's) tho, when I turn up to a Sunday coffee drive in the Z4. 'Why do you leave your 600HP M5 at home and bring in your hair dresser car'? The Z4 will always be more fun for a blast in the country, especially now I've had it remapped.
Cheers

100x better than an X5. But where the heck on South Island are you going to open her up? It was all I could do to stretch the legs on a Mazda2 hire car. I was too scared of the 14 wheelers coming the other way on those single track roads.

That is a good question. Lots of very quiet out of the way country roads if you know where to look but no Europe style motorways. I drove one yesterday that was 37km of corners over a large hill which was amazing.
We don't have any international tourists at the moment and a third of our population are in lockdown so the roads are rather empty. I did a 5 hour drive recently on some stunning roads and saw less than a dozen other cars and no cops
I need to look into doing some track days too.
And yea, I don't miss the X5!

Sounds perfect. Can't wait to get over there again and climb some mountains.Kiwi_Mike wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 2:02 amThat is a good question. I have the same engine in my X5M and it sure is sweet. Always a weird thought that it is quicker than my 911 and in continental Europe, I have taken many fast cars by surprise.

Any spec must haves on the F90 M5? I've been looking at these to answer my never-ending 'practical fast GT' demand - and in some odd first world problem i'm torn between one of these, and the E63; or a FFRR
One thing i did note is that some of them (including the X6M i sat in at the dealer) has massage seats, and that's something i'm oddly interested in having now i've sat on them..

I had them in my 7 series, but not in my X5M. Never missed them to be honest as the M seats are something different anyway.
The sunroof is a must, CarPlay obviously and I took the Carbon fibre etc
