O2 Sensors

Post by Zapata » Fri Mar 27, 2020 12:20 am

Hello Team:

Any instructions about how to replace the O2 sensors? I am having a Service Engine light and according to the ODB reader is an O2 sensor.

Thank you very much.

What is the code reader telling you, is it showing Bank 1 or Bank 2 and is it Pre Cat or Post Cat sensor thats triggering the code?
Once you know which sensor it is then you need a O2 Sensor socket so you can get it on the sensor with the wires disconnected. Not sure what the access to them will be on this engine but you will find them before the Cats and after the cats. If you can access the Pre Cat ones via the engine bay from the top and the post cat ones from under the car using a socket ratchet or fixed socket drive bar, you may need a universal joint on the end of the socket to get a decent angle to undo them. When fitting a replacement they usually come with anti-seize already on the threads however do not get any on the sensor ends it will destroy them.

Thanks Colb.

Is that one of the sensors on the top area of the engine? Bank 2 is cylinders 4,5, & 6. I can see the sensor with the black cable and the sensor with the gray cable. The one with the gray cable looks harder to reach. Thank you.

O2 Sensors

Hi My sons z4 2005 2 litre has the engine management light just come on.The code reader says it is the pre cat o2 sensor. The you tube videos are for a later 6 cylinder and make it look easy.My sons engine is very different and the sensors are very innacessable. Also one schematic suggests that there are two precat sensors.I assume I have to remove the front wheel and go through there but I cant see where the connector end isIs this a ramp job or can I do it with a jack. Also do I need to remove the floorpan?Help Hugo
