M4 convertible

Post by Pondrew » Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:21 pm

I know I have peppered the forum with cars which I have decided to buy over the past few months. It's because I can't make my mind up (head and heart at odds).
I have always had a thing for the M4 and really like the look of this one

It's a bit chavvy, but at least it's not boring!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

I like it mate, I have also been looking at these - I need an auto as I have issues with my left knee so thought these would be a great car to own

How about this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203599681218 ... SwhbFg-OA2 or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255111345290 ... SwTdBhKUWn

For me, the M4 is a beautiful car. It is the 2020's M3 since that went 4 door. But, it has to be a coupe, it looks s**t as a convertible, I mean really s**t. If you want something that can drop it's roof, then you have to have a two-seater in my opinion.
I used to have two boys and a girl. Now I have two Men and a Woman. :?

I need a four seater though. I've now got a thing for verts. The Z4 stays and is great but can't go anywhere with the family :D

I think you are struggling because I feel you realise that you cannot have a 4-seater and a convertible in one car that you like. I might be wrong, but perhaps like me you feel that you cannot find a car that combines the two and looks good. Can you really compromise? Mind you, I have never ridden in the back of a four seat convertible. If I did, I think I would hate it. I gave up swallowing flies years ago when safety helmets became compulsory for motorcyclists, then there's the buffeting. :D Just me I suppose. Get a four seater with a roof that you love the look of and you have the Z for some 'me time'.

I see what you're saying and does make sense and I sort of agree. I do, however, like the look of a long 4 seater convertible with the roof down; maybe I should live in Monaco (if I could afford it). :D

Easy solution to this: Two Z4s !

Keep the e89 and look for an e85M

Nice. Have you had any engine issues? I heard the S55 has some potential issues with the crank rod bearing.

I think they look great, but then having owned a 435d, I’m slightly biased. Looks are down to tastes, if you like them that all that matters. The only thing I would say, after having had quite a few four seater convertibles, is that it’s never fun in the back with the roof down unless you’re cruising around town. The only exception to this was the E350 which had the pop up aerodynamic flick on the top of the windscreen which diverted the wind behind the rear seats and you could cruise at 70 mph easily and your rear passengers wouldn’t get blown away. The downside to the E350 was it was not much fun to drive in a sporting manner whereas the 435d was

how old are your children? an M4 isnt really a 4 seater in my opinion, its a 2+2 at best. if your kids are over the age of about 6, i'd do it properly and get a proper 4 door, 4 seat saloon - ie an M3.

and i'd agree with BeeEmm, getting in and sitting in the back of a 4 seater convertible with the roof down does not sound like fun. not much fun with the roof up either, since you wouldn't get a window!

C63 coupe with the Pano roof, V8, 4 seats, a boot and you can see the stars at night.

Thank me later.

It's a bit chavvy, but at least it's not boring!
It does seem to have the Halfords pack. If it was me, I would look for a more striking colour and lose the M Performance add-ons. Competition wheels are nice addition if you can get them, IMO.

Regarding the back seats, I assume it's no worse than my dad's E93 M3 convertible. I'm 5'10" and it's a bit of a faff to get in and out but fine once seated.

I like white cars, what can I say?
I only have one child (15) and she is super skinny. Any car I buy won't be a family daily but it seems pointless to have 2 out of 3 cars that can't fit us all.
I might go back to the (more sensible) E400 cab. :? Or even a 440.
It's bloody typical. This is the first time in my considerable years that I have the money to buy pretty much whatever I want but can't decide what I actually want.
I love the M6, but they are not really sporty, will cost a fortune to run, are not very sought after so will continue to depreciate badly and the wife won't drive it because it's bigger than a yacht.

I may be old fashioned but still of the view that a roadster / cabriolet should not have more than 2 seats
