Manuals at home, I'm in work-where is the oil check button?

Post by Sojourn » Mon Jun 15, 2009 3:11 pm

Ok, this is a bit embarrassing...when I turned off the engine earlier I heard a 'ding' and the oil light came on - I need to check the oil but I don?t know where the button is - I could wait until I get home later and read my book but I'd have to go back out if I need oil.

Where is the button and why did they do away with a dipstick (the oil check one not the one driving my car!) :driving:

Cheers,

DT

'Oil check button'???

Are you thinking of the brake fluid renewal countdown?

As far as I know you should still have a dipstick like I do in my 2004 model. Apologies if I am mistaken!

The manual says the warning lights indicate as follows:

Red - stop immediately!
Yellow whilst driving - Oil level at absolute minimum - Do not drive more than 30 miles without topping up
Yellow after engine switched off - Top up as soon as possible

Hope that helps.

Does the 3.0si not have a dipstick?

ps. I believe its the left button when your next service milage pops up.

The oil check button calculates the oil left (takes a few seconds) and displays it as a bar, something like this [[][][][] ]

Sorry - I wasn't aware of that. It must be an added feature for later models. There is certainly no mention in the 2004 manual.

I htink this is only on facelift models (the digital dipstick that is)

The change to no dipstick was made on the facelift models from 2006 on except for the "M" which still has a dipstick.

Thanks for all the responses. I've checked the oil now and it says 'Oil OK' - guess the little yellow oil light I saw when turning off the engine was aa anomaly - I will have to keep a close eye on this one...

Thanks Again,

Soj

Nope, that means you just need to top up as another poster said. However I wait for the little yellow light to come on a few times in a row before I top up.
