Camaro SS
Had my first up close look at one yesterday,,,,,,and I can honestly say that I was unimpressed. Starting of with the thing sitting on 20"s,,,,WTF? The car was sitting so high off the ground it was pathetic, thinking that a 3-6" drop with some different wheels would definitely make this a little more "mean". But at $37k, it is not a slouch in the hp/dollars category.

Re: Camaro SS
Unbelievable value. 426 HP for $34K. This is the best performance value out there. The V6 at 300 hp is no slouch either. If it was available in a rag top I'd own one. Efficient dynamics the v8 gets 25 mpg. Unless your doing a 120 tmph the lift is negligable. The looks are just sex. IMHO.

Re: Camaro SS
I'd buy an original myself for that kind of cash - Had a 1970 SS 350 in the house when I was a kid and was in plenty of 67-69 models with every engine combination... These new creations modelled by the Big 3 are not an inspiration IMO

Re: Camaro SS
Rank in order of preference. New Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. I'd Take Camaro first, Challenger and then Mustang.

In the airport on Friday, I saw a car mag (can't remember which one) which had a shoot out between the Camaro, Challenger and Mustang.
The Mustang won...

Based on styling alone I agree ... based on performance and value I would reverse the order.rabman5 wrote:Rank in order of preference. New Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. I'd Take Camaro first, Challenger and then Mustang.

Re: Camaro SS
No question about the memories, but IMHO the new models capture the spirit and soul of the original pony cars with the convenience and comfort of a modern car. I think I can see one of these retro look pony cars in my drive some day (but I will wait for the Detroit mess to sort itself out first)Caddyshk wrote:I'd buy an original myself for that kind of cash - Had a 1970 SS 350 in the house when I was a kid and was in plenty of 67-69 models with every engine combination... I was watching CNBC and Ford reported that over the last three months, they have increased production by 10,000 units each of those months...
And since Fords quality is now on par with BMW, Merc and just a hair shy of the Japanese, I can understand why they are selling more cars....... If they just made a real performance car...

That’s just a what model against what model. As far as an older one, you can't even compare handling and stopping. 400 plus hp, 400 plus torque, independent suspension, Brembo 4 cylinder stopping, stability control, XM, built in phone and 25 MPG American gallon.
Every review I’ve read scores Camaro # 1 performance for the money.

Yeah and the deep deep discounts you can get on a new Ford right now don't hurt either. I have been driving Fords (Mustangs and Explorers primarily) since 1979 and have never had any serious quality complaints. My biggest gripe with Detroit is that they have completely abdicated any industry leadership. Except for these retro look cars, they have not produced anything that really captures the public imagination since the early 1990s (when the SUV as a mass market concept was new and all the rage). Detroit needs to get back out ahead of the rest of the world or it will simply not survive.Shipkiller wrote:I was watching CNBC and Ford reported that over the last three months, they have increased production by 10,000 units each of those months...

Don't know what model vs. model. I just read the cover. Did not really want to read the article. I KNOW what my next car will be....
