Boot Trim Question

Post by YorkshirePuding » Mon May 10, 2021 9:14 pm

Has anyone managed to remove this rear trim panel that contains the interior light. I can get the four retaining clips out but it appears to be secured under the 2 top mounts and can't work out how to release these - all the searches I complete come up fruitless. Please help.

This is a picture of the full panel I've found online.

I dont know the answer to this but thought that with the notches they may turn to take them out.
These seem to be made of metal on some cars, dont know if its newer cars have metal ones or different models have metal ones.

I'm no expert and probably wrong but with these being metal are they not datum points for the hall sensors :scratchhead:

Flat bladed screwdriver in one of the notches and lightly tap anti-cloclwise with a hammer will also get these off.

Why???? :idunno:
The light can be removed/opened without removing this panel.
When the light stays off, this issue is based in most cases on a broken wire in the lid's locking system.

To be a bit more precise: :D
There are 4 hall sensors in the roof system, each directly clipped into a hydraulic ram. A 5th one is placed on the left in the bottom of the trunc to detect the position of the trim cover.

Looks like they need a "C" spanner.
In the early days of ownership i tried removing, but wouldn't budge.
Didn't want to damage the plastic.
Just bump stops for the boot, if you look at the boot.

Thanks for that, although I hope never to need this info

The reason I incorrectly assumed what they were for is they seem a bit over engineered to be trim locators - surely they have a use for something?

I don't have my car at the moment or else I'd be looking what part of the boot this make contact.
