Removing centre caps

Post by Ming » Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:47 pm

I've bought some new centre caps for my 19inch alloys but I'm buggered if I can see how to remove the old ones. Do you have to remove the wheel first and push it out from the inside? There's barely enough gap for my thinnest feeler gauge to go past from the outside

Certainly easiest to knock them out from behind.

I've always managed to catch an edge with a precision screwdriver but you do have to be careful not to catch the wheel..as 1000rr says, if they are junk then just run a screw through the middle
if its got tits or tyres..its trouble :D

Changed mine - tried the screwdriver method and though no way so used a screw through the middle and yanked them out

Take them off , push them out from the rear and give the whole wheel a good clean while you are at it :D

Incidentally the floating caps are a waste of money, I completely forget I have them only to be reminded every time I catch one with the Karcher when cleaning the alloys, they spin furiously and that’s where my enjoyment of them ends :(

Removing centre caps

Thx for the replies, guys.

As I have no way of getting the wheels off, I'll try the screw method. The outside edges of the caps are scabby so not planning on reusing them.
