Frozen Paint
(Note, first post in forum).
I'm 10 days into owning my new Z4 M40i in Frozen Grey (I really love the color). I am debating PPF for the front. Last couple of cars had it.
A lot of good info and concerns in this thread. If and as I learn anything with time, I'll touch back with a post.

Lovely looking car, my favourite colour
I would need to have at least the front PPF’d but as raised in response to a post I made earlier in this thread, would the PPF be shiny and change the appearance/finish of the frozen paint. I’ll be interested to hear what your detailer says re this, especially if only half the car is done

Such a good looking car and colour. Pity it is spoilt by having a cloth roof.

Welcome to the forum. Good to have another matte paint owner on board. The G29 looks fabulous in frozen Grey (and Orange)!
Just wanted to update on how easy the matte finish on my car is to look after as could be helpful to other owners. Couple of days ago I noticed my car was dusty and and had a few marks from general use in the current UK dry weather. Two micro fibres and Nonolex Matte Final Finish spray was all it needed to make it look like new. So easy to apply, no residue and zero scratches! It’s a German product and not sure if it’s available in the USA but well worth trying it out. Product details as follows:
“MATTE Final Finish is a silicone-free quick detailing spray designed not to add gloss to your satin matte paintwork. Use it to wipe away light dust, fingerprints and water marks. The pH-neutral formulation means it will not degrade your existing sealant layer but actually adds protection.”
Have used it since I bought the car and it’s brilliant!

Yes, it's available. However, I yesterday ordered "Adam's Matte Detailer" which seems to be a similar product. If that doesn't work, I'll try Nonolex. Thanks

Sounds similar to looking after a car with ppf.Obs-Com wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 8:29 pm Welcome to the forum. Good to have another matte paint owner on board. The G29 looks fabulous in frozen Grey (and Orange)!

So Xpel UK (the UK's leading PPF brand) have a product called Xpel Stealth, that retains a matt finish for cars already painted in a matt colour... But it can also change the finish of a polished paint to matt too.Argyll Andy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:39 pmHello and welcome, I hope you enjoy many happy miles in it.MarkB01 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:23 pm (Note, first post in forum).

The place I recently had my Z4 wrapped in Xpels normal finish PPF film, had recently done a Z4 M40i in Frozen grey and it looked spot on/the same as before being wrapped. They had also done a Porsche GT3, but that was polished paint and the Stealth PPF product made it look matt, which looked great too.
Hope this info is useful for anyone else who looks for this type of question in the future and sorry for replying to an older thread... Just thought I'd share

Just a heads up on the xPel Stealth PPF.
I had my brand new Z4 M40i First Edition completely wrapped in it and it looked great, However, it started to come away around the edges, especially around the arches, and did not adhere to the edges of the boot at all, where it needed to be stretched it came away and to be honest spoilt it and wound me up every time I saw it.
It was applied by a highly recommended specialist, and in my opinion, the PPF does not bond to the Frozen paint anywhere near as good as the gloss, and this caused the issues.

Aww that's pretty pants to see Can you not claim on either Xpel or installers warranty at all? I know my installer (Clean Detail in South Yorkshire) cover any lift for 5 years, as long as there is no evidence of you jet washing too close to the edges type thing. They also waxed lyrical about the edge sealant stuff they put on, to better safe guard against lifting on the edges. I feel for you though mate, as it cost me 3.5k to do the full car (including additonal coatings and stuff), so I'd be gutted seeing it starting to lift!AndyT wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 3:19 pm Just a heads up on the xPel Stealth PPF.

Tbh I’d had enough of the car for a number of reasons, and that not being the worst of them so sold it at the start of the first lock down. That said something had flown up onto the bonnet and damaged the ppf (which didn’t self heal) but would have defiantly needed a respray without the PPF so did it’s job.Yorkshire_Z4M40i wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 3:32 pm Aww that's pretty pants to see Can you not claim on either Xpel or installers warranty at all? I’ll have to have a look at Clean Detail, I’m only in West Yorkshire so not far.
