Alpine White Paint Touchup

Post by Deepseaskateboard » Sun Apr 18, 2021 7:07 pm

Recently I purchased a Halfords ‘alpine white’ paint touch up kit for a few stone chips.

The kit is good, and I have managed to use it with some autoglym paint renovator to blend the chips back into the body, so the paint does not stand proud. Surprisingly easy to do...

One major issue with the halfords kit is that the ‘Alpine White’ is darker and more grey than the car’s paintwork. Meaning that although flat, my stone chips still look apparent.

I have heard that alpine white is a bit of a mystery to even BMW with no definitive shade fitting the name.

Can anyone recommend a product or service which can do an exact match?

How does BMW’s own paint touchup match up?

(I did shake the paint pen for a while to fully mix before applying)

Yeah the actual paint is awful.

It’s the primer and the little blending tool I think are good.
Also the nib applicator is great! It’s a shame the colour does not match!

get your paint scanned by one of the paint guys.
there are variations in the colours, and you should get a decent match.
they will make you up a small amount of paint.
I got a match better match than the bmw one....

Colour match in the Chipex kits is supposed to be very good, although I have no experience with Alpine White.

I decided to go with an alpine white 300 from BMW.

It’s a good match.

I have wet sanded the chips back with 2000 grit, and polished it all with autoglym paint renovator.

Can barely see them now.
