MMI installation - question for the master

Timmyboybunter wrote: Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:46 am What I mean is, if I get into the car in the day time - I want the MMI in day mode. If I get into the car at night, I want the MMI in night mode.

I'm way, way, way too busy and important to be changing anything on my phone to achieve the dark mode :D

(I've only half heartedly tried the various options so far as the car isn't getting used much given the current restrictions - the end in sight though)
Can you change the background (desktop) in Android Auto? In CarPlay you can choose different background designs including an all black screen but in that background the night mode doesn't work, when I have one of the other background styles / colours the night mode works fine. I've also noticed that on one app night mode does not work but it does on all other apps. Maybe you have something similar in Android Auto?

I don't remember seeing an option relating to the background, and I did go through all the settings a couple of times.

I'll probably get whatever is the latest firmware for my version and spend a bit of night time fiddling time outside :?

In the new update you can change the background but only the apps background, if you are playing music you won't see it. You'll also end up with the split screen view (unless you do already) which i really don't like at all.

If you have access to an iPhone it might be worth hooking it up to Car Play and see if the night mode works. If it does then you know it may not be an issue with the box.

MMI installation - question for the master

It seems Android auto wireless requirements may have changed. According to the Google site the requirement is as below. Not sure if this applies to the Andream box but I'll try it soon. I updated my Zenfone a few days ago to Android 11.
I have asked the support team, waiting for a reply.

Thanks to you my MMI install went smoothly today. All works well and zero lag when switching to pdc. Mine seems to startup on CarPlay so that’s good.
Only thing to fix is to make it so Siri doesn’t shout at me. Currently way louder than music. But this thread has tips for that too.
Thanks Dave!
Does this screen retract like the OEM item?

Yup - because it *is* the OEM screen. The MMI box essentially sits in between iDrive and the original screen, sending Android/Apple auto images to the screen instead (but you can switch between iDrive and the MMI box whenever you like)

Certainly Mark, this is the one I have in my Z and the one I've fitted a few times and recommended to others.... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001063 ... 2e0ePutbg2

**EDIT** They seem to be currently out of stock of the CIC version (that's the one you'd need in a Z4)

MMI installation - question for the master

Update, my Zenfone 7 with Android 11 now pairs and works wirelessly, just as Google mentioned. Tested earlier with Google maps and some UK radio, seems OK.
I did ask the manufacturer's support guy, he had no idea, just repeated the old list of compatible phones, which it seems was a Google thing (?) not a limitation of the box as can be seen on the pic I posted before.

Also some other changes, there are now more apps available on Android auto. Sygic maps, Whatsapp chat and Skype have now appeared, if you have them on your phone natch. There are probably others that I don't use too.

The latest update from Andream is available, V1.5.5. This has 2 files GEMINI_PACK and ISPBOOT, which are installed separately.
The previous update only had the GEMINI file. What is the difference?
Just curious.

Weird one today, haven't updated or changed anything but.....
Left the house, went shopping and the MMI worked automatically as it has done since the Android 11 update. Backed into my drive and saw this:
