First Service - Spotify Gone!

Post by Obs-Com » Fri Feb 26, 2021 12:15 pm

First service just completed on Wednesday at 9800 miles at Williams Bolton. Took a little over an hour and did it while I waited. Having seen my car drive out of the workshop I was a little surprised to see it go back in. I was then told an error message had come up that needed to be checked out. Long story short, it was a connection to the head unit. Left the car with them and picked it up Thursday.

I’ve had Spotify up and running via the online music since having the car. I then bought BMW Connected Music provided by Napster back in November as told Spotify was no longer supported. However, Spotify has continued to work in the car without any issues, even after a software update, so just kept on with Spotify as it was linked to my account. I drove off from the garage yesterday and Spotify was still there but a few tracks later stopped working and fell silent. Had a look at this at home and the Spotify Ap has now gone and the Napster Ap is now the default Connected Music player.

As I have Spotify on my iPhone, wasn’t too concerned as I can play my music library via Bluetooth connection but here’s the problem. Spotify shows the tracks via the head unit and confirms the track is playing but no sound comes out. Tried iTunes and this works without any issues at all!

Where’s Spotify gone and can I get it back? Why does Spotify no longer play sound when connected via Bluetooth but iTunes does? Seems a little strange this happened after service visit and issues with the head unit!

My first question would be, why don't you do a sharp about turn and go back to the dealer?
If it worked when it went in but not when it came out, it was something they did.
HQ of 'Norfolk Zed Rescue'.
Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

I think it should not have been working since BMW withdrew their link with Spotify in 2020, which is why I bought Connected Music provided by Napster (it was on offer for a 12 month subscription). For some reason Spotify kept working till now which suited me as all my music on there. I just wondered if there was a way of getting Spotify back in the car as it was steaming via the cars sim.

I’ve not tried CarPlay but will give it a go. I’m not keen on it TBH as prefer BMW visuals and would like play music via Bluetooth.

I think they only withdrew Spotify usage with Idrive 6 vehicles and not the newer generation. https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/08/17/andr ... -idrive-6/

You should be able to tell if you have an active subscription to BMW connected package professional or BMW Music via the bmw-connectedrive website.

I had issues with my car when I first had it and lost Spotify for a while. I got it updated by BMW at the dealer and then Spotify came back and has worked since. The last OTA update didn't affect this for me.

I have an active Connected Package Professional till May 22 and BMW Music till Nov 21. The CPP does confirm connected music via Spotify but I’m sure I’ve read somewhere this has now been withdrawn for all iDrive versions? I’m wondering if the BMW Music via Napster is now the default provider? Just hope there’s a way of getting Spotify back.
