What will it sell for...?

Post by john-e89 » Sat Nov 21, 2020 1:07 pm

This 9,300mile minter has been up for sale pretty much all year now, started off @ £32k, now @£30k which it has been for a good few months, maybe even 6 I think.

What’s it going to have to drop to to shift it...? Seems a shame as you’re getting as close to an off the production line car as possible now, they were £44k-ish new. I know you’ll lose a shed load as soon as you start using it so i guess it’s a bit of a victim of its own mint condition, but you’re still getting an almost new M for a hell of a lot less than it would have been 2nd hand in the noughties. I’d have thought someone with a view to keeping one long term would have bitten by now.

My guess is £25k ish... :idunno: Any thoughts...?

I reckon you’d be better off putting it into an auction with a reserve. Attract the collectors looking for low mileage minters - maybe wait for Covid to ease up a bit and the market to start recovering.

collectingcars.com is worth a look and costs you nothing to try. Speak to Ed there.

Thanks for the reply

I should have pointed out it’s not my car, the post was just a discussion topic on what could be the lowest mile M in the country.

I think there are 2 ways at looking at it.

On the one hand it's the nearest to a new MR you are likely to find, and even at £30K it's cheaper than new ones were!

But if you want one to actually use it's likely to need new tyres and possibly other parts like seals replaced, and when you do put some miles on it the value will drop pretty dramatically.

So I suppose it would only make sense for a collector to stash away - which seems a waste of a great car.

Like everything offered for sale it's just a matter of finding the right buyer, and it hasn't yet.
Coupes because stunning!

You'd also have to budget for rod bearing shells, as that car will only ever have been used for short journeys from cold...and maybe the owner didn't know enough to ensure it was fully warmed up before taking it out for a Sunday blast :P

Worth 50p and a conker

I’m just amazed at the steady stream of low miler cars that keep turning up - every year out they pop.

In a buoyant market £25k easy... given the redundancies faced by more & more people over COVID; increasing costs faced by everyone over Brexit; the permanent anti-fossil fuel lobby, time of year & being in a more widely available colour be surprised if it made more than 20k

That’s quite a sweeping statement based on the square root of precisely nowt....

For all anyone knows all its mileage might have been on journeys of plus 20 miles and have no issues with being warmed up thoroughly, might never have had a short journey in its short working life. :driving:

As Mr Tidy says, the moment you start to use it and enjoy it the value will drop significantly and very quickly. At the ask and if it goes for close to it, I’d suggest it would spend its life in a garage maybe seeing the light of day very rarely!

A lot of these cars are 3k mile a year hobby cars, so it's a good buy at £30k and then in 3 years with 18k it'll return you most of your dollar. There won't be many in 2023 with that level of mileage.

Why don't you just contact the seller and ask? He must have a figure in mind after all this time, or maybe just not interested in whether he sells it or not.
