I was waiting for an Activa moment through the chicane but, alas, no. Some serious roll at 14mph. :lol:

Ive always said, the Porsche is such a good package, it makes a good driver great, where as our platform is extremely rewarding, but very difficult to drive fast, you make it seem easy, so hat off man to you. :thumbsup:
it's a 997 gen1 rs, actually not that much difference in p/w. He competes in quite a few race series, I'll let him know a man on the internet thinks he's crap :)

It was damp and his car is worth an awful lot more than mine, didn't look to me like he was hanging back much, but anyway I thought it would make a fun video showing how much faster it is.

No disrespect but isn't a 1:15 a bit casual for a car of that calibre round there? I've not driven it myself but a quick google suggests a mid 1:13 for a csl which I would consider my car to be on a par with.. both with probably more steering inputs!
Either way, I'm not really looking for maximum efficiency in my cars these days, and I know the car is never going to be the fastest. I'm quite happy being presented with a challenge :) It's fast enough for me.

Thanks. It's not set up well at the moment. I run a little bit of toe out on the rear which has it's advantages but I've also found it's really sensitive to rear camber which has in my suspicion been incorrectly set. The first phase of 'the moment' is that, the second is where I lift off deliberately introducing lift off oversteer, it was the better option than potentially understeering off as the grass was extremely wet... barriers not far away... been down that road before...

I don't mind it but I rarely use the car much on road these days. It bucks a lot on our b roads.
I have the camber plates and whilst it's a ten minute job to to knock them back to normal levels I never do it.
In your case I'd be shimming it and see how you feel about it? It's no big job to remove/change them.

None taken and a 987.2 full fat S on a same calibre as a CSL around a track? News to me.

On my first time ever on track in this completely unmodified road car (I've done less than 10 trackdays)) in the damp to get within a second and a half on a less than 90 second track shows Porsche is well ahead of dynamics on track compared to a BMW, approachable limits doesn't mean it's boring though.

Out of interest, do you mean you'd expect the CSL to much quicker than the 987 S or vice versa?

I'd have thought they'd be similar based on power to weight and tyres?

I’m 100% sure I would have been faster with MP4S on this particular day than Cup2’s. It was wet, greasy and cold. I would expect a CSL to be considerably faster than an off the belt full road spec offering from Porsche but the fact it isn’t is a testament to Porsche ethos and inherent ground up design to be a well balanced sports car; more so than a BMW which lets be honest tends to be more of an on paper spec tick box exercise to sell as many cars as possible.

I was trying to be as accurate as possible with my driving, my response originally was to show that the Porsche has a level of intuitive balance and response which no modern BMW I’ve driven has. (I have owned E46 M3, E60 M5, 550i, 130i, Z4 3.0i and now Z4M).

I still have my Z4M because I think for a road car it’s entertaining as it’s unintuitive, it does things you don’t expect to keep you on your toes but trying to drive fast it becomes frustrating and tiring.

IMO.

I've felt the same on track, dangerous on Nordschleife isn't really "fun", altho "exciting" - and now I'm considering a manual Giulia Q instead.
If only the Z4MC wasn't so daaamn good looking... :)
(also my garage is already full of "sport sedans")

Maybe time to consider something for track only? There are many many great options. Road/track will always be a compromise. Easiest option would be something like a Radical, more difficult ones, something like a last gen race car, however with that come the bills. I myself would love to put myself into a Renault RS01, but still a little steep. Might wait another couple of years.. in the meantime my current project should keep me occupied. It's going to be a hand full. :thumbsup:

Edit: out of note, I would not expect a E46 M3 CSL to be faster around a track that any recent offering from P, including the Cayman or the Carrera options) in fact, the CSL, even though a very collectable car, isn't that fast, easy enough to outpace a csl in a slightly modded E46 M3. (Unless your not talking about a E46 M3 CSL and then I have no idea what I am in about lol)

Two new problems then:
1. I need ANOTHER car.
2. The fun is in working out the best compromise, in my view. OF COURSE an Ariel Atom would be faster round a small track, but what's the fun in that? Its a bit 1-dimensional isn't it?

Buy a lardy estate and strip/cage it to make it a loony drift car?

Have seen a few of 5 & 3 series tourings (e34/e36/e46) and an M5 Touring (e34) as track weapons at the 'Ring. Can even carry a full set of track wheels & tools.

I sorely miss my Fiat Coupe actually, it was a great comfy GT for trips to Italy etc but at the same time setting PB's on The Ring on the way home. Something my Z4MC cannot do well, either of those things.
All I need, really. A Giulia Q maybe... :driving: Altho I might be stranded on the roadside occasionally.. :roll:
