Not De-badging, but semi re-badging. Thoughts.

Afternoon All,

So had a read of the de-badging threads on here:

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=121509&hilit=debadging&start=15

and the ever argumentative Pistonheads one:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1349540&i=0

I have de-badged most of my cars, preferring the minimalist and sleek look. Some have been top of that range and some not, I'm not fussed about people knowing. having said that I have not touched my Golf GTD. Mainly because the front detail is part of the grill, but I could remove the rear badge. What I really like about the M Coupe, is this if you know your cars then the Bonnet, roof and front bumper tell you it is a M version (The quad exhaust could be a modded car) so the M badges can be done away with. Also every BMW I look at these days has M badges everywhere (The wifes 118d, is covered in the M badge!)

I want to remove the "M" badge from the front wings and rear badge off my Z4M as they are faded. So Now I'm thinking:

  • Do I leave all the M badges off, just renew the BMW indicator, boot and bonnet badges?

Change all Blue / White for Black and White.

And just to be even more indecisive: just stick a single M badge on the rear.

  • If I may throw my $0.02 in, I have never understood the black white version of the BMW badging. Leave as-is or take it off.

Leave as-is

Think that's the only option not on the list, since they're all old and faded!

OP I'd remove them, see how you like it, then renew badges later if/when you want... best of both worlds

Got just the boot lid on my M think it makes the side look a bit bare. Will be replacing all mine prefer the oe look.

I think regardless of where you leave them, they should be oem colours.
Cheapens the whole thing if they’re a non oem colour... in my opinion... that’s just my $0.02.

Personally I'd either remove them all or keep them all and if keeping them I'd stick to OE colours - but it's your car!

If they are all faded then removing them and seeing how you like the debadged look sounds like a great suggestion from kis.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I mean to leave them in the original colours.

So after having it clean and de badged, I have put a rear badge back on.

But

I have committed sacrilege, in some eyes.....

I think I'm more pleased with the position, than I am with the "Black" badge.

Ye... just my opinion but if your going to do it do it OE positions just wrong for me. Sorry.

Have to agree, it’s current placement just prompts so many questions.

I knew it would divide opinion. Normally I'm a de badger of cars, but i'm still in two minds on the Z4.

On a separate note, does my RH exhaust seem wonky?

Yes it does seem out of alignment , the passenger one too should be twisted up a touch , the boxes usually sit level across the two pipes , possibly previous owner had aftermarket boxes on & not got them adjusted properly when refitting the originals .

When I look at photos of when I first had the car they were level, now not so.

Hmm , look level though the right looks lower ? most probably not fully tightened , they are weighty items the oe backboxes
