Did you ask to see the V5 before you purchased it?

Well I would be a little p***ed if I purchased a car advertised as one owner when in fact it had 7. You have been misled and if you have the original advert you have a good case in getting the car returned and getting your money back. But as some have said it could be a good car so what is the service history/documentation telling you? any invoices, call BMW or garages that have worked on this car to check what history that have on the car, check MOT history and mileage and cross ref with service history. A little detective work can reveal a lot about a car’s history and if a car has only ever one owner that owner could have been a poor one and not cared for the car at all. Hopefully this one has had 7 good owners.

This is isn't Pistonheads.

If the car was genuinely advertised as one-owner (and you can show this), then it's misrepresentation.

Really intrigued to hear from the OP on how this progresses.

Some buyers may not be too fussed but plenty would be and if it was falsly-advertised the garage should be held to task (whether it was a mistake or a deliberate act) to prevent it happening again.

it makes absolutely no difference to anything just enjoy the car.
You have 30 days to return for a refund, if they refuse then its legal action at your expense, should you fail you will have to sell the car to pay the bill.
Life is far too short for all the anxiety and confrontation over something that is neither here nor there.

Hey all thanks for the advice.

I do totally get that it’s a lovely car it maybe was slightly over priced for a 7 owner car, personally I probably wouldn’t have got it although do like the 20in alloys.

To be honest my biggest gripe is the fact that despite sending the garage evidence they have still continued to deny it was ever advertised as 1 car owner. Had they apologised and said as goodwill will offer x,y,z then I would probs my not worry as it stands I have request details of the firms arbitrator and if they can’t provide this then a letter of deadlock.

All in all they do seem a good garage part of The AA garages and so comes with AA membership and a 12 month warranty on certain parts.

I have a feeling it may have passed hands due to the roof leaking issue. Spending time on it I think I may have resolved it but time will tell.

I will push back to garage as although not looking to sell anytime soon I would rather not have an issue with buyers questioning the number of owners and try to haggle on the price.

Thanks again everyone your views are taken account of

Good luck and I hope any resolution is resolved to YOUR satisfaction. Either way I hope it doesn’t sour your thoughts of such lovely cars.

Are you not a little late to start chasing this after owning it for a few months or have you been on it since you bought it?

Pretty simple legally... if it was advertised in writing as one owner then its misrepresentation..the sale of goods act covers this. Money back time.. But in the real world...see the other comments...

I bought my 2009 in 2018 with 45k miles and 7 previous owners. One of them had it for 2 years and did 2k while another had it another 2 years and did no miles at all!
It’s a very well kept car, all fully serviced on time by a main dealer so I have no problem with it.

OP What proof do you actually have that the garage sold it as only 1 owner?
