Post by Dorian90 » Tue Mar 24, 2020 9:32 pm

Hi everyone

I have z4 E85 with 2.0 engine manuel gearbox
Do you know if there is major differences in general between a 2.0 and 3.0 z4 suspension brakes etc?

I would like to upgrade my engine from 2.0 to a 3.0 engine do you know if it is an easy swap and what there is to be swapped as ecu engine mount etc?

It’s 100 times easier to sell your car & buy a 3litre, they’re not even expensive these days

Indeed, unless you're a particular fan of doing engine swaps and like a challenge, its a lot easier and cheaper just to sell your 2.0 and buy a 3.0.

2 seater sportscars are dirt cheap right now... not that you should be travelling anywhere to look at one right now...

As said above, much easier and probably no more expensive to change the car. And what would be the future value of a 3 litre 2.0, as who would ever buy it off you? And what about insurance?

Engine swap on E85 2.0 to 3.0

I was a member of the Capri fraternity for around 30 years. When people started to collect them and restore them it was all the V6 models that everyone wanted. Consequently, a lot of the little-engined ones were broken for spares or simply run into the ground.

Now the market is awash with 2.8i and 3.0S models, but if you had a Mk2 1300L for example, it would be the rarest car of the bunch.

Whilst I realise this is a quite polarising opinion, I do just wonder if in a few years time, assuming Greta and the coronavirus leave us alone, we won't all be saying "hey look, there's a 2.0 E85, you don't see many of those around any more".

I am now expecting a swathe of "Huh! There's a good reason for that" type comments. :poke: :D

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

But does rare mean it's sought after? I wouldn't have thought so?
And certainly wouldn't think a 2.0i would ever demand a "oh look" reaction.
