F10/F11 535d experiences?

Post by JoshsZ4M » Fri Nov 29, 2019 11:37 am

Morning Z’ers!

Thought this forum seemed most appropriate to ask the question... but feel free to tell me to love it if elsewhere would be more so.

I’m in the middle of deciding whether to change from having been in a company car scheme to running my own.

I love the F11 tourers, and I’m looking at spending 15k on a low mile high spec 35d at five or six years old...

Question is, what are people’s experiences with them? Good, bad, ugly, it’d be great to know 😁

Happy Friday everyone!

Get the 35i, diesel is becoming the enemy of the world (as it always should have been).

For the last 7 years I've been driving a couple of 520d F11's and they are absolutely great. Brilliant Family bus for the kids and dogs, but I I've also had 12 alloy wheels in the back too with the rear seats folded down.

Saying that, it is also a excellent cruiser. Eats motorway miles effortlessly with the luxury of all the toys and gadgets too.
However, I can't speak for the 535. I've always found the 520d plenty. Cruising at 60mph will give you touching 60 mpg and it will sit cruising in the 90's and you hardly feel you're moving.

Check that all EGR recalls have been done ( my current F11 has had 2). I also believe the rear gas suspension can be a common fault, but I've never had this.

I had the 335d m sport plus which was very good but common on the uk roads. It was a brilliant engine with 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and very reliable. I can not vouch for the 5 series though. I would not buy one without the Head up display which was Just brilliant. I regularly used to get around 50mpg on the motorway which is very impressive.

SiJar, thanks for the info, I drove a 535d last weekend and I’m just taken with that engine!

Ditto the EGR recall. It is essential.

This can happen and BMW will then wriggle - thankfully our insurers were brill and paid out in two days with one of the days a bank holiday- so a shout out for Direct Line.

:o yeah I saw this was required on a 530d I’ve looked at! Will definitely be getting it done if and when I take the plunge.

I’ve had a 520d touring and a 430d, both awesome cars and I can only imagine that a combination of the 5er touring body with the 3.0 diesel is all you’d want...

I’ve just come out of company car scheme into a new M135i - working for me so far!

Bit late to the party,

I've had a F10, F11 and now a G30. Loved every mile in them. The 2 Fs were diesel and would get 600miles to a tank. Loads of comfort, reliability and looked the nutz. We change our cars every 4 yrs so I rarely get over 65k miles in one.

Cheers guys! The company I’m working for at the moment have temporarily given me an F10 20d lux, and I managed to get 760 miles to the 65 litre tank last week 😲 all motorway miles I’ll grant you 😉

They are talking about getting me a G31 20d though... which I am definitely keen on, so watch this space 😁

Had a E61 520d many years ago & more recently a E91 330d but neither come close to the current F11 520d in terms of performance & refinement.
It's a proper machine built like BMW used to be like :o & can't say I've ever wished I bought the bigger engined model.
Currently sporting a set of style 326s only these have proper sized tyres on :P

I've looked at coming out of my company car/fuel scheme but the maths don't work based on what they will give me in terms of car allowance.

I'm going to get either a Tesla and pay no tax at all or the new PHEV VW Golf GTE and pay about £130/month which includes petrol provided by the company.

Tesla has a BIK of 0% and the GTE 6%.

Diesel cars are now an expensive company car option.

Until October I was on exactly the same deal with a Golf GTE and a fully financed fuel card. It was great... I must admit though that I did hoon it around far too much, and never charged it as a result. Ended up doing a speed awareness course 😂

Now I’ve moved jobs, with much higher wages, so I’d rather just have the car I want, and happy with it being a bit of a barge too now I’ve go the Z 😉
