294 Wheel Rims Refurb

Post by Pecky1964 » Thu Jan 23, 2020 9:36 pm

Hi All, I recently purchased an E89 Sdrive30i. It is fitted with the split rim 294 wheels and I have decided to give them a refurb myself. Before removing the bolts to split the rims I am wondering if there are any potential problems doing this.
ie bolts being corroded in place, heads coming off the bolts, threads being stripped etc. Also I need to know if there is a torque setting when putting back together or even if I should use new bolts. I assume threadlock when reassembling is a good idea........
TIA for any replies

I have a set of 294's needing refurb too, so have asked a few of your questions.

Yes potential problems with bolts, everything you mention - be prepared to replace any that need it, around £5 per bolt.

Yes there is a torque setting, don't know what it is.

No need to use new bolts, but replace any damages as above.

Yes use threadlock.

I've just about concluded I can't be arsed with my 294's any more :D

Many thanks for your reply. Although my wheels are not bad I want them unmarked really so I am going to give it a go.
Have you “split” any of your rims and if so did all bolts undo okay?
Many thanks

Recently I had two of my 294 refurbed, well actually they just did the outer rim but still the wheels have to be dismantled and the shop doing the work didn't have any problems removing the bolts.

I have had one of my 294's refurbished recently
They did not take the wheel apart. Just taped off the bolt heads.
Looks like new again and can't tell the difference from the other wheels
