Because there seem to have been a few UK people looking for a 3.0 recently, I thought I would try and update the forum a bit with this info. These are snapshots of an early Z4 brochure, for the 3.0 only and in UK specification, which includes items which are optional in other countries. This is pretty much applicable for all of the pre-facelift cars ie. from launch in 2003 until the last cars in late 2005. The facelift cars came in during March 2006, and as the brochures are still current on the BMW website, I haven't put any facelift info here.
The 3.0 and the 3.0SE is the same car, basically the launch cars were called 3.0 and then BMW renamed the specification to SE, but never made any changes, although for stuff like car insurance, the two models are distinct and you should try and get it right.
IIRC there were only a couple of spec changes, but my memory may have failed me on that –
- M sport seats weren’t available as an option until around mid-2004
- cars with the red leather came with a light grey interior (plastics etc.) until late 2004, when this changed and the interior was black as with the other interior colours
- the 2005 MY came with an MP3 capable CD player (it has a black surround)
- early cars couldn’t drop the roof from the key (not until 2004 I think)
If you’re looking for a UK 3.0, you pretty much couldn’t order one for months prior to the facelift car in March 2006 (that due to emissions legislation), so from mid-2005 onwards there are hardly any cars, and I’ve only ever seen a few 55 plate (Sep05-Feb06) ones.
