New 4 Series Coupe Concept

Post by MrPT » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:10 pm

I saw this over breakfast and just about chundered.

At lunch, not so bad. Kept my tuna sandwich down ok.

Now I can actually look at it for a short amount of time.

They’re desensitising is to the actual really-quite-big-but-not-as-big-as-we-feared production grille. I think ben g’s right re. the plate as well - certainly had that effect on Audi RS and Lexus models with their enlarged pie holes.

The big grills are popular in their two biggest markets, that is China and the USA, however the European market thinks it looks horrendous

The X5 grill is meh, but the X7 is fugly and this well, they're just having a laugh

I hope that bmw do well in the Asian market if that concepts not some joke , I can't see many people buying it in Europe seeing as Alfa are supposedly getting a 2 door giulia ready for release. Google it and its lovely , although two renderings come up the one with the small boot lip looks the best .
We're in the market for a large engined coupe seeing as the wife's employer has relaxed the rules on their car allowance scheme , used to be 4 door cars only , but I couldn't even bring myself to go to the showroom to look at that new 4 series . The only options I can see at the moment is an e53 amg coupe or wait for the Alfa to be released .

Unless you had serious eyesight problems no one in their right mind would buy a car with a grill like that. It is truly hideous.

I heard that's not a concept - it's actually what it'l look like.

Someone at BMW saw all of those Grille Memes and missed the bit where we were all mocking them..

If it really does reach production like that, then picking up a clearance deal on the current model could be a pretty good idea?

It's my personal taste really. If I was looking for one, then I much prefer the look of the current model and would rather have the last of those, with a hefty discount, than pay a premium for the new version which looks pretty naff, to my eyes.

ah, fair enough. FWIW the new gen 3series interior/ICE is a decent leap on from the previous. that said - it's still classic (dull) BMW interiors so you'd not be missing much.

Current daily is a 67-plate 335d touring, so I know what the interior is like already really. I have always been much more concerned with the external view of a car. Maybe I'm as boring as the BMW interiors, cos for me, if it has all the basic pedals, switches and a steering wheel, I'm not too bothered about gadgets and gizmos.
All hypothesis anyway as there's no prospect of a car change in my immediate future.
