Carbon Fibre Interior Trim

Post by jhpgram » Tue Sep 10, 2019 8:49 pm

Hi guys,

I was just looking for some advice on interior carbon fibre trims.
I currently have a brushed aluminium dash which I hate and wish to replace it.
Previously I've had a piano black dash in my other car and found it a ballache to keep dust free and not scratch it.
I was wondering what cheap-ish options there are in terms of authentic-looking carbon fibre trims.
A wrapped dash doesn't interest me as they often look quite tacky and can peel very easily.
Hydro dipping, on the other hand, maybe something of interest.

If you could please let me know of any experience you may have had with carbon fibre trims, I would greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks, James
:D :D :D

There is a thread somewhere were someone dipped their trip in Carbon look. Looked good as I recall. The standard Carbon look in the Zed looks nothing like Carbon, but it does look good. 8)

Mainly because it is carbon leather, if we are talking about the standard ///M fitment.

Not if you do it properly and with decent 3M wrap. I wrapped mine 4 years ago, it hasn't peeled at all and still looks great

Yeah, that looks fairly decent. Is it gloss wrap? I'd like it to be as convincing as possible!

You wouldn’t be open to trading the carbon effect leather panels in my Z4MR for your aluminium ones would you? Are they plastic with aluminium effect, or are they real metal? Plastics the only thing that would put me off...

Yeah I would be interested. It is real brushed aluminium. What are the condition of your panels like?

I wrapped some interior parts of an A3 I owned in 2010, using 3M matt carbon vinyl. Really durable, didn't peel, no problems at all. Vinyl gets a bad "wrap" when bad finishes are generally down to poor quality vinyl and/or poor installation.

Do not get rid of them. When you come to sell you will need them back, will make the car much eaiser to sell. A set of brushed aluminium can be had for little money. Your ///M CFL interior is worth £500+

This is the current state of my Z4 as I'm wrapping it in carbon fibre at the moment. If you do a good job it looks great and cost about £10 to do almost all of the interior. If you don't like it, take it off and change it :D

I'll post pics when it's done.

srhutch, cheers. Sorry jhpgram, I think it’s probably not a wise move for me to get rid of them to be fair. Apologies 🙄
