Newbie from Cardiff - Exhaust Emissions Light

Post by CeriT » Sun Aug 25, 2019 9:20 am

Hi All - I have recently bought an 07 2.5si & has been running well, really well. Just flew through an MOT no advisories. Yesterday however the exhaust emissions light came on and won’t go off. I’ve ordered a code reader to try and narrow down the issue but was just wondering if i am ok to drive it with the light on? The car is still running well, no loss of power.

Hi and welcome - that's a lovely looking Z4.

If the EML is Amber it's a "sort asap" job so it ought to be OK to use, but I'd try to keep use as low as possible.

I hope the code reader helps you get it fixed.

Welcome to the forum.
I would not drive the car, unless you have too, with the engine warning light amber. First step get the codes read. We are all just guessing otherwise. Take a look at this thread.

Hope it is sorted quickly? :)

It will probably be an O2 sensor, but code reader will confirm.

They are prone to trigger especially with a change of fuel grade/brand.

OP if you have an android phone the download torque pro and get yourself an elm327 BT dongle as it will tell you the fault and enable you to reset. I’ve had this happen to me and at least one friend due to change in fuel grade used.

That is great news!

It might be worth trying to see what condition the battery is in. My car threw an amber EML for post-cats just before the battery needed replacement! They do seem prone to flagging up random "faults" when the battery is dying.

Anyway I hope you had a good Bank Holiday blast. :driving:
