Hi, my iPhone X and XS both.
I just got my brand new BMW z4 m40i which has lifetime Apple Car Play feature installed.
I tried to connect it and it works perfect first.
Then automatically gets disconnected when you switch off car and leave.
then again when you start, it doesn't start and says UNABLE TO CONNECT.
RETRY RETRY RETRY!
Tired of this C R A P!
Not sure, whom to complaint about ?
Apple or BMW ?
It works perfectly with BMW own selection iDrive, but if I change iDrive to Apple carPlay, then it doesnt connect and shows unable to connect.
I need the car play to work, as car play shows the clipart of the song.

it is a known issue. Until there is a software fix you can toggle on/off either the wifi of the car (you can use a preset button for this) or the wifi / CarPlay button on your phone. When doing this, it will always connect (and stays at least through the drive). At least that works for me.

I've also had this problem and would be interested to know where the WiFi option is!

I am not with my Z4 at the moment, but there is a sub-menu in communication where you can check/uncheck the car wifi (not the hotspot). You can use this to “toggle wifi on/off” in the car (maybe somebody can post a screenshot of the menu). Alternatively, you can toggle on/off wifi on the phone or toggle on/off carplay in the phone’s settings. The first is easier though - especially if you use a preset button for the sub-menu rather than having to fool around with your phone while driving.
