I'm not far from that and am insured with Saga, who seem to be advertising a three year fixed price deal for over 50's. I have not had my renewal yet but look forward to seeing what the quote will be.

Phil
With Saga our 335 went up to £480 - I twisted and got it down to £360 - then got the three year deal - £410 / annum providing nothing changes.
So it’s not free. Hopefully it will save me having to bellyache for the next two years.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Three score and ten Insurance

I'm 71 at present and usually stick with the same insurers for 2 or 3 years, then they hike it up so I just go on Compare The Market or whatever and get a reasonable deal with another insurer.

Always a deal to be had!

So after getting comparison Quotes and some haggling with Saga I ended up with the 3 year deal at £396.00 per year instead of £420.00 as first quoted. This is with no voluntary excess so just the compulsory £150 for accident/£100 Fire-theft/£75 glass. Which in the end I don't think is to bad.

I’m 77 years young and pay £480 for my 2010 sDrive 30i with ClassicLine. This includes Agreed Valuation and UK and European Breakdown Cover. I’m limited to 5000 miles a year but this isn’t a problem for me as it’s not a daily driver. My previous TVR was covered with them and I’ve always found them good to deal with.

I reckon I will look at that next year - I’ll be 72 by then.
The only fly in the ointment is we tend to judge by policy price - but If the claims process / payout in the event of an incident isn’t good then what cost the price saving ?

You could also try going to the price comparison sites through Quidco or Top Cash Back. They sometimes offer up to £70 back, although you may have to wait a few months until it is credited to your account
If you've already searched around just make sure you clear the cookies in your browsing history first (and haven't already had a quote off them)
Don't bother with protected NCB (unless its free). Complete waste of money!
If you have a claim, the insurer will still say you have whatever NCB you had but put the initial premium up.
If you switch insurers, yes you can state you protected NCB, but because you've had a claim in the last 3 years guess what?
Yep you're premium goes up

Have you tried using Chris Knott brokers who have a deal with this forum? They were able to find me a better deal on my renewal a few months ago despite the fact I had a fresh claim on my record. I'm sure there is a sticky somewhere on the forum about them.

I'm 'mature', but a bit short of three score and ten :D
Yes fully comp, protected NCB, £200 total excess, 5k miles, SDP, garaged, no modifications, low risk area and low risk p/t occupation.
My first Z4 policy in 2010 was nearly £400, by 2013 I got it down to £138 with a £50 reward voucher so £88 for the year but haven't managed to quite match that since.

I've got four cars in the household and find these tips accrued over decades of miserly penny pinching can really get the price down,
1 - If you don't bother with the rest this is the biggie - Check prices about three weeks in advance on several comparison sites, I've noticed that they will ramp up prices the nearer you get to the renewal date, so if you find a stonking offer grab it.
2 - Play around with the excess, some insurers actually charge no more, or sometimes even LESS for a lower excess, no idea why but I've seen it time and again.
3 - Play around with alternative employment descriptions, there are often several that fit (without lying of course) and some are seen as lower risk.
4 - If like many of us it's 50/50 whether your car is habitually garaged or on the drive etc try different permutations, bearing in mind that garaged isn't always cheapest (apparently a lot of claims involve garage doorposts and things falling on the car!)
5 - Adding a mature driver (between say 40 and 60 years old) with a clean record can bring down the price even for older drivers
- contrary to a daft comment made on here a while ago they wouldn't HAVE to drive the car regularly or even at all, the only problem comes when you misrepresent who the main driver is.
6 - Play around with mileage requirements, sometimes upping it makes no difference
7 - Don't bother declaring over-optimistic valuations for the car (unless it's an agreed value classic policy of course) they will only pay out a negotiated market valuation anyway.
8 - Think hard about all the add-on's they offer, are you realistically going to need extra cover for this and that? most times payout is argued and subject to excesses and limits even if you ever needed to claim.
9 - Don't even think about third party only, some companies don't offer it or weirdly charge more, again work that one out :idunno:
10 - Do you need 'commuting' or 'business use' cover? My price has gone up for it with some companies, but not with others so it's worth playing around with those search boxes again.
11 - look out for cash back offers, some are a lot of faffing about for a few quid, but as mentioned before I've had up to £50 squid back before.

No excuse for the three score and ten's not doing the search work, you have plenty of time on your hands, happy Scroog'ing

I was with Saga but this year quoted £289 comp with max 1200 miles per year.(only did 1100 miles last 12 months).
I decided to shop around and found Direct Line who quoted £220 up to 2000 miles per year so went with them..happy bunny.
