Might seem a silly question, but what do you feel when they go?

Yep, me too! NSR, only noticed today while swapping wheels, broken about 1 coil from the bottom. Didn't notice it before, I blame the runflats

I'm wondering if one of ours has broken... From the driver's seat I can hear a sort of knocking rattling sound behind me, which is similar to what I've experienced in my mx5. The roads here are terrible, so doing some research about what to fit.

Yay, I am in too !! NSR broken pigtail. 63k miles.Noticed a bit shaky on a bend last weekend, so thought I would check and there she was :D
Easy, peasy to change. Fitted rear Eibachs now and ride height is pretty similar as before. Lets hope for less sketch on the corners

This is a dumb question... and might well be answered somewhere else (apologies if so) but for a non-mechanic, with no ramps, but with a trolley jack (if I know where to put it...) is it easy-ish for me to conclusively establish if the spring is broken or not?

Best to work with an axle stand under the chassis. Then remove the wheel. Look in the lower area of the suspension arm for the fracture of the broken spring. You could feel around without removing the wheel, but I never found it until I took the wheel off.

Mine were obvious as the bottom section had dropped out. The top bit of the spring that was left I could wiggle with my hand.

I read somewhere they always break? Only had my E86 two weeks but it came looking ‘low’ at the rear. Aside from missing parts, the springs were very very dead on the rear — shattered top and bottom.
