BMW Z4 2.5i annual running costs
Hey guys,
I recently made a video on the running costs of my 2005 2.5i Z4 and I was genuinely shocked at how much the car has cost myself over such a short period.
Do any of you guys have a ball park figure of your annual running costs? I am keen to compare and find out?
Ps here is a link to the video I made on my running costs

I've got a spreadsheet with all costs on it, but I like my Z4 so much I don't care what it costs - so long as I can stay solvent!
Coupes because stunning!

More expensive than the 2.0 and 2.2.
Probably similar to the 2.5 SI.
Less expensive than the 3.0, 3.0 SI and M cars.

Just checked the service history on mine out of interest, and the total from new (2005) till I bought it in July 17 was £4500 on dealer maintenance. Since I’ve had it I’ve spent £1000 including, DLV backbox, fitting cruise and Gaptech and 2 new tyres. Now self maintained so no labour bills which makes a huge difference if you have the time and skills. It’s in top condition with 71k miles.
Current: 2005 Z4 3.0i Sterling grey, red leather, 108's. Cruise, DLV back box, Gaptech.

Insurance, fuel, tax and parts and servicing over 8 years of ownership works out at £151 a month.
Considering 50% of parts changed just as preventative measure/ cosmetic as opposed to broken it’s quite an economical car to run.

Almost £3k spent in under 12 months i have to say you have either been very unlucky or bought badly ? Were any of the issues (door handle / abs sensor /roof motor) evident at purchase ?

Compared to what I spend on her in petrol. The other costs, all combined, are still less.

Didn't we all buy them as a fun sports car. Roof down, sun out, and good A road. Do we really care about running costs?

I couldn't think of anything more boring almost as bad as those weirdos who document every single fuel trip and then brag about their fuel economy.
Very strange.

I’ve owned various sports cars over the last 27 years. They cost money to run. If you don’t want to spend it don’t buy one. Why waste time making a video just drive it!

I don't get why folks are knocking the whole expenditure side of ownership when clearly its one of the main criteria for most owners ( or potential owners) otherwise those having a snipe would be driving the ///M versions or the twin turbo's wouldn't they

3.0 SI Roadster
Fuel is around £60 - 80 per month.
Insurance £190 yearly
Road Tax £310 yearly
RAC Cover £100 yearly
Servicing £200
Annual Hunter Alignment £65 - 130
Roughly around £1890 at the most.q
Other things are emergency budget of £1000 in case of any issues. As the car is well looked after this hasn't been required yet.
Usual maintenance and checks done on the car with discs and pads replaced, brake hoses replaced, tyres replaced when required, alloys refurbished, stone chips touched up. As these are not annual costs I've not included them.
Brakes £300
Hoses £100
Tyres £500
Alloys refurbed £200
If I was buying another Z4 I'd have to include a budget of £2000 on top of the cost of the car to get everything fixed that's wrong with the car and to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
You can also add about £1000 on lotions, potions and equipment over the course of the year for cleaning.

Thomas I didn't watch your video. Set a budget beforehand. If the costs shock you, sell it and buy a different car. It's a lump of metal with tyres and wires.Same as any other. Some cars just have cheaper tyres and wires.ThomasDE85Z4 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 10:07 pm Hey guys,

I wouldn't pay 15k or more for an up to 13 year old car . That's why I don't have an M.
Im not knocking the guy, but every car costs money at some point in time. For what it's worth, my zed hasn't cost me that much over my near 7 years of ownership. Suspension being the biggest cost I think, bar the soft top which was changed for cosmetic reasons only. I hate to say it's reliable, because no doubt I will be tempting fate, but it's done a bloody good job of putting up with all the stick I've given it in my ownership

I think if you buy well & treat well then non M Zs can be enjoyed over a decent duration for minimum expenditure.
I appreciate the vibe about " buy it drive it whatever" but for 90% of us common sense has to prevail Re costs & the op isn't moaning, just highlighting his situation.
Hopefully year 2 will prove less expensive
