3L Coupe 07 (Black Cover) Major Service Costs?

Post by Looney » Wed Jan 09, 2019 11:38 am

So need to get a 'major' service done on the 3L zed, does the price differ much from the S54?

I bought the car a year ago and a 'service' was done and stamped but no receipt to see what was done, so i want to take the plunge and get a full look around sorted.

Any idea what to expect.

Cheers,
Tom

It should be significantly cheaper than an M, the key difference being the lack of requirement to check the valve clearances.

If you put your reg into the BMW servicing page on their website it gives you costs for oil changes / inspection I and II along with brake costs.

That'll give you an idea of costs and let you decide to go BMW or indy.

Ins 2 on a Si covers very little by comparison to Ins2 on S54. No change of diff oil, gearbox oil or valve clearance check.
I wouldn't pay more than £250 for what is basically a oil & filter, air filter, plugs & possibly cabin filter if you're lucky.

You're also cheaper buying the servicing items and supplying them to the local indy if they're willing to do a labour only type deal.

That way you know exactly what's being used for the service.

How do I find the list of items needed to service the car. I see lots on eBay but I want to stick with legit parts.

If you ignore the checks, it really is very basic indeed. There is no requirement to change diff fluids or gearbox oils. Even the sparkplugs are mileage based. I also find it odd the the microfilter is given higher priority over the air cleaner element. There is no way I would follow this maintenance schedule... I would change sparkplugs every 40k, and air cleaner with every oil service.

No probs. If you ignore mileage and time based items, Insp 1 is just the same as the oil service. Insp 2 just adds the air cleaner element

I've bought servicing parts from https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ in the past. They usually have a discount code on the website.

Oil and Filter from https://www.opieoils.co.uk/

Coil Packs might be worth replacing too ( as I mentioned on another thread).

Shop around for what you want though.

It'll be a lot less as people above had said.

One thing that's worth mentioning is that I don't buy much into BMW service schedules and consider them pretty insufficient in a lot of circumstances.

From what I recall there's no service schedule for the SI to change the box oil, or the diff oil for example. Same with the electric water pump and so on.
