It's the sound insulation that cover the top mounts. Quite common to see them ripped as garages don't bother dismantling all the trim properly when replacing shocks etc.
2008 Z4MC: heavy wheels | crap suspension | skittish rear end | wobbly engine | not enough induction noise | underwhelming turn in | inconsistent braking | lardy battery | chubby steering wheel

I put my whippy back on.
Despite the fact the stubby looks better, the reception from the stubby was crap 💩
I’m sure there are better stubbys out there, but the one I was using was crap.
I recall I had a oem one on the 85, and that was better, so that may be the answer.
So for the time being , back to the remote control car look🙄21224C27-62F0-4475-AD43-84007AEA3C9A.jpeg
Funny you mentioned that, I've found exactly the same thing. Stubby (it was more of a semi-stubby) was very good on the E85 but the E89 stubby is not great at all.

Got my replacement drivers side, front wing M badge today from BMW North Oxford. "Only" set me back £46 , which was cheaper than the ones listed on eBay and Amazon. Also picked up a trim removal kit, so I can get the old clips out of the drivers side sill and reinstall the kickplate at last.

Hopefully, by this weekend, all the cosmetics should be sorted for the time being.

What have you done to your car today?

Did the roof motor relocate. Man this was NOT fun.

Couldn't get the lower casing out for the longest time, got so frustrated and ended up needing to summon all my man-strength to break the end clippy/slot bit.

Bonuses from the job though:

- I found out my motor is in great condition :D
- I didn't have a blockage in my drain hole as the casing and insulation was very tidy :D
- My rear shocks are likely not 15 years old (foam was cut apart so someone has been in there) :D
- It was near 40 degrees C here in Sydney today so I basically did a sauna treatment :D

Image

Oh i also ordered a new soft top to replace mine (it was slashed and patched up by the previous owner and I tried my best in the last 3 years+ to ignore it)! Another tedious but ultimately rewarding job to come
