Beedub - love the M3 allows in grey colour on your Z4MR. Looks superb...

Rally - love the black/dark grey wheels and front air dam on your Imola Red Z4MR. Even if they are 19"s... :P

I enjoy reading threads like this one with a variety of different views. Personally I am not keen on black wheels. I think they lose some definition when black. However, I did like Marlon’s on his Imola Red car with the black hardtop. As far as size goes it is 19 inch rims for me every time. I like the CSL look too. A lot of cars have them I know. But that is because they look good. In the end all that matters is that we have on our cars the wheels that we like best. The only limiting factor for me, is cost and what I can get away with spending before SWMBO begins to fret a bit.

Fully agree on the "black rim trend".
Why should I try very hard to HIDE my new, expensive rims by simply camoflage them in the SAME COLOR AS THE TIRES.

I can answer this... No difference whatsoever

Both my Z3's were on 19's, two of my Z4's were on 19's, both Porsches ran 19's, A6 was on 19's, but my M roadster is on 18's , it's comfy, handles OK ... the wife likes it.

19's look spot on in my books. Big enough to fill the arches, not so big they look out of place. 18's or 19's both suit the Z4, M or not. The Z3 on 19's would look a bit mad! @mcbeee - got any pics?

I am sorry for my dumb question, but I am just lost when I read about offsets etc.

Would the wheels from an E46 Alpina B3 3.3 or the E90 B3 Bi-Turbo/D3 fit my Z4MR? I'm interested in the 18" staggered wheels, rather than the 19"s, as I think I would have issues with my OEM setup?

18s for go.
Agree. One sort of owner will sacrifice a little performance for looks, and the other sort won't. Not sure what the ratio works out to be....

PS - I also much prefer stock silver rims to backed out ones. Some colours look rather nice with gold rims, mind you!

These are M359 19" wheels from E92 competition pack. No more perfect fitment/offset exists - I still can't believe they don't rub ever!

Thanks, you're right that aesthetically it could be a little lower, but I'm not prepared for the trade off in practicality and scrubbing inside the guards ;)

For those acting like theyre getting superior performance sticking with 18" wheels, you do realise that the different tyre profiles used mean that the difference in rolling diameter in only around 1%? The larger wheel size and thinner sidewall also impart handling benefits but even ignoring this you're never doing to notice such a small change in performance solely due to wheel diameter.

Edit: I should add that my comments above are for spirited street driving: there are
additional trade-offs (including tyre cost) which make 18s a common choice for track work.
