When I was bitten by the deadly venomous Zed Bug and went in search of the holy grail I learnt a great deal about buying a BMW. Even though I had previously owned an M5, M3 Convertible and an X5 4.4 Sport they were all purchased brand new from BMW. Their simple rule is that approved used BMW's for sale are usually current or recent models and they are reluctant to retail models that are no longer in production ie, THE ZED.

This fact although a pain can work in our favour as it did for me. Time and time again we see posts on here from members wanting to know what accessories are fitted to their car. The myriad of models and standard equipment coupled with optional extras either factory or retro fitted is bewildering. Only BMW can tell you the full spec of your car as it was when it left the factory and therefore the listed equipment on any BMW from advertisements placed by non BMW dealers is at best as factual as Button Moon?

The Red 35is advertised in the link above from Avon Car Sales isn't even a complete equipment list for a standard zed let alone a 35is but it does tell you it has safety belts? tinted windows? but strangely enough no mention of Sat Nav, Paddle Shift, DCT Gearbox......etc etc etc. The car is quite a nice car but for me the mileage is just a little too high to command that price. I bought mine six months ago and paid £27,995 for it with 18,000 miles on the clock. Having owned and driven the car for six months I consider myself fortunate to have found my zed and at the price it was a bargain.

Anyway don't be afraid of buying from non BMW dealers which is where most of the zeds are found but check the dealership you buy from and remember your choice is the only one that matters. If you are happy and love the car then buy it. Everybody in the world wants you to believe that they got a fantastic deal when they changed their car and got £3000 over book price when they part exchanged their 63 reg fiat uno for an M4 Convertible and because it was a Tuesday the Salesman knocked £15000 off the price of the M4 but in the real world it doesn't happen. :poke: :fuelfire:

Actually once you get the VIN details you can check it online on a site like "vinchecker" - but that isn't always the whole story, as I found out with my E86!

It wasn't built with them, but it has been retro-fitted with rear parking sensors, cruise control and OEM cup-holders.

The crucial first step for me is to find out what features the model you are looking for came with as standard, then to work out which options are "must haves" and which are "would likes" - then see what cars for sale have fitted.

It's part of the journey towards the great destination of Z4 ownership! :)
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

As above, I got the VIN and did a lookup. To be fair with most advertised cars you can tell the options from photos. Some tricks I've always used:

Xenons? Look at the light switch cluster for an adjustment dial, no dial must mean xenons. ALso look for the washer jet covers on the front bumper
Heated Seats you can see the buttons or not on the centre console
Cruise Control is quite often obstructed because of the weird stalk but you can normally see an edge or something in one picture
Wind Deflector is usually visible
Pro Nav visible
The 35iS comes with lots of goodies as standard aswell.

To find the VIN, get a quote here https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start. If that doesn't work create an account on a dealers website and try to book a service, it will ask your reg number and reveal the VIN :).

I think that’s an 18i looking at the dash, it doesn’t have the dual zone controls which the 20i & 28i both have.
The ad also states it’s got 115bhp & was registered in 1970, the price seems to low and I’d be on full alert :o

Does look too good to be true but seller has 100% feedback on almost 400 transactions so could be worth pursuing if the car tempts

For that price the seller wouldnt have to bother selling on eBay, he could take to any dealer and get £10,750 for it.

FWIW The Autotrader valuation of my car dropped ~£1200 this month, much more than usual. Could be the new model announcement, could be us ticking in to another reg as of Aug? Previous drops til now have averaged ~£200 which is what I had originally forecast when buying the car.

64 reg 35iS, 35000 miles
Private Sale valuation: July £21720.00, Aug £20550.00.

Not sure it's reflected in reality tbh, but interesting nevertheless.

Yeah, mines down too, now £20,650 from £22,350 just 6-8 weeks ago. Onset of autumn/winter, poor climate for selling, new reg and new model announcement I guess. Your's is quite low for a 64 plate?
Next Z landed ..... Z3 3.0i Sport Roadster

Z4 35iS ..... Gone to a new home
