But the government uses the money to improve our roads like not filling in pot holes.

It's an emissions tax. It has nothing to do with filling potholes in.

It basically goes into one big pot and the government decides what it gets spent on.

It's only Road tax in that it needs to be paid if you wish to drive or store your vehicle on the road. It's not a 'pay it and we fix roads' tax. I really wish people would stop thinking of it in that way, because it begins to get boring when people constantly moan about paying road tax and then linking it with the rubbish standard of our roads.

You should drive a 911, half the road tax :fuelfire:

Ok, my new x5 replacement will be in the top bracket this time.

I have taken to defensive road proportioning now, ie right in the middle. Any policeman that has an issue with that will receive my frank opinion on the state of the roads.

We need some European engineers in the U.K. to teach them how to make proper roads.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

Well i never realised  Road Tax was abolished in 1937 as Ben pointed out its our Income and Council tax that goes toward repairing the roads.

That’s extremely unfair Fred, really it is.... :x

Just a thought though, have you actually told them half the car is wood and it’ll naturally decompose and return to nature whence it came from in a few years......? :poke:

:D Maybe he's getting charged for carbon offset?

Ask whether your can have £100 off if you plant a couple of saplings, Fred.

It's a road tax. And should be used to fill potholes.

It basically goes into one big pot and the government decides how to waste it.

It's a Road tax in that it needs to be paid if you wish to drive or store and ruin your vehicle on the roads..
We pay all this road tax and still they don't repair the pot holes , glad you agree with us moaners.. it's good to have a moan :P
And yes I should get a reduction as my car is part tree

I can't understand why the VED, Roadtax, Emissions tax whatever you want to call it is not a pay as you use it tax.

If any tax can be fair Surely if the duty is put on at the pump wether that be 5,10,or 20p per litre its the only fair way.
My DD company car ( diesel) does no less than 30k miles per annum why is it that the tax is less than half of my hobby car doing 2k miles per annum.

To avoid losing revenue.
They could still keep the tax on £40k+ value vehicles and extra charge for higher emissions new cars at point of sale.
All vehicles have a pollution usage even the electric and hybrid vehicles, where do they get their electricity from ?
Pollution causing power stations, I'd have them have a special electric metre installed that charges a premium for the electric charge over and above the domestic rate.
