Thanks, I'm aware of the consumer rights act but it was a private sale.

As Rob said you probably wont need this.. because the 23i has fuel injected in the inlet, it keeps the valves and ports clean.

going a bit off topic here. But in case anyone else is interested its relatively straightforward...

You need, an air compressor, shot blasting gun, some ground walnut, a vacuum and a walnut blasting vacuum attachment.

Image

essentially you blast walnut into the valve cleaning it, while the adapter helps vacuum away the used walnut/carbon.

The only part I didn't have was the blasting vacuum attachment. They're £60+ so I 3D printed one for a couple of quid.

£102 is a great price for an injector from Sopers. Last time I looked, they were nearer £200 ech. Sounds like you have illiminated coil packs so injectors will certainly be next on the suspect list.

Nope, 23i isn't direct injection-the n54 and n20 engines are but the m54 /n52 engines are not

Robs correct, just checked realoem. It has no HPFP and standard injectors.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised!

I'm going to swap all of bank 1 (cylinders 1,2,3), to begin with.

I suppose that will give you a good idea of what's involved but I bet you will need to swap the other bank as well within 12 months. If possible, it would be super to have a good DIY guide for the forum. I think the vast majority of people have had them done under warranty but you can be sure there are lots of cars falling out of warranty over the next few years so I think a good guide would be very valuable.

OK, in that case where are the 23i injectors mounted, in realoem I cannot see any mount or hole on the inlet manifold?? Do they go into the port before the inlet valve? i.e. mounted on the head?

Yes, they inject into the inlet port (keeping the inlet valves clean) but not directly into the combustion chamber :)

I've got a feeling the new injectors will never come into stock.
The availability date has been pushed back three times now.

From what I've been told,

13-53-8-648-937 (£102) is used by dealers when repairing under warranty (so they are less out of pocket until the reimbursement comes back from BMW)
13-53-8-616-079 (£240) is what the dealer wants to sell you

They are exactly the same injector.

I wonder why they’ve given them different part numbers if they really are the same part? It makes no sense :?

The code printed on the injector is 13-537-585-261 12 no matter which part number you order.

13-53-8-648-937
13-53-8-616-079

Image

This article gives a bit more information..

The key bit being
There is no difference between 13538648937 and 13538616079 in terms of quality. The injectors are identical in every measurable way. Originally, the 937 injector was the improved version as part of the TSB but now both part numbers have the improved version. Why does the 937 injector cost less? It costs less because it's more of the true cost of the part. This reduces the cost the dealerships need to inherit for warranty work on a common failure item until reimbursement from BMW. The separate numbers are also established to artificially decrease the reported failure rate. One part is to handle the warranty and recall claims (not reported) and the other is strictly for retail and regular service work (more profit).

Nick I don't think you can mix index 12 with index 7 so you might have to get all 6
the injectors (pt no 648937) you have been quoted £102 are index 12 and are slightly different to the pt no 616079
