Mine didn't have the smaller box, just the bigger one, maybe different to the 2.5..Limonge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:01 pmHello! I am thinking in doing the same in my facelift 2.5si, did you bypass both of the silencers? I attached the picture to make it easier (red arrows). Did you do anything to the final muffler or is it stock?JimBob78 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2016 7:21 pmUpdate...
Had this done now and I'm pretty pleased with the results. When potering it just sounds pretty standard, bit deeper on tickover but when step on it it really has a nice tone. I've noticed the occasional muted pop, don't expect loads of crackle, you'd need to change the backbox for that. It also seems to have added a bit more power and improved throttle response but no evidence for that!
Only downside is the mechanic fried a lamda getting some nuts off and is claiming it's not his fault!! No wonder they all have a bad rep...
Cheers!

That’s probably a sort of X-pipe. It improves the flow of exhaust gasses. It doesn’t reduce the flow or sound like a muffler.

I assume that when the centre cats are removed it would be best to replace with an X pipe to ensure a smooth flow of gases? Anyone done this and found that top end power is improved?
Has anyone done this using an H pipe? Has this improved sound and low down torque?

Pre-facelift were two secondary cats with that mixer box a bit further down, then a back box.
Facelift appear to have a front silencer in one unit (for cheapness I'd assume), so there is no reason you'd need a mixer there.
I think if you want power/performance you'd get two straight smooth pipes right to the OE back-box. At that point you can then tweak the back-box to make it louder etc (no power to find there I wouldn't imagine), or do stuff at the manifold end (sports cats away from the engine/manifolds)
Tinkering with the OE probably won't yield much power I'd bet.

Front silencer removal
Hi,
See if this thread can be revived, as I'm looking at removing the front silencers too.
What price and what garages did people get theirs done at?
Thanks
