A lot of previous press has suggested they will be raising the entry level price quite significantly over the previous model. It looks a lot more premium than any BMW at the old E89's price point. I've seen one more recent price suggestion at a £35K starting point, which seems unrealistic.
With the base price starting at £30k for the E89 8 years ago, starting at £35k is not really unrealistic, is it?

I've commented elsewhere that this is beautiful and would have one

As it stands there it's the halo model/concept, which gets watered down as I think everyone agrees.
If we remove the humps, put a proper top on it then you have a car in a different size and pricepoint to the E85 or E89
Even if they drop in a 2.0 4 cylinder turbo or a straight 6 turbo, the closest production car I know to it is the F type with similar engines, sizes and proportions and that's £50k in either guise, roadster or coupe, so it'll clearly be outside the existing Z4 price points.
I can't see it being less than £45k, which to me indicates it has to be seriously pared back for production if it's going to be below £40k and sell in Z4 volumes

Was chatting to a guy at the Duxford spring car show who worked in the service department at the local BMW dealer. The info he'd been given was that the top end model would have hybrid technology and the price would be in the region of £70k :o

The outgoing 2.0 SE was £32K, which appears to be the proposed new entry level model. The weak pound may well factor into the new models pricing, plus how they want to place it in the market and what they want to compete against. I read some early reports suggesting a more premium product with a roughly £70K pricetag and being a 911 competitor. I can't see that being the entry level price and I can't see it competing with a 911. That said, newer 4 cylinder premium cars are coming in at an increased price now. A base 718 is £43k and the new F-Type is £49K.

From early spy shots, I was expecting to see a far more generic interior, as it seems current BMWs seem to go for a lot of recycled interior parts across their ranges (Merc and Audi are just as guilty). The prior shot's I saw seem to suggest the new 5 series interior. The concept model looks far more bespoke (which is a good thing) but even the i8 has some bits of crap you'd find in a one series, so it seems likely that will change, which is a shame. I was hoping to see a final production model with a more confirmed pricing strategy. Just going to have to wait a bit longer unfortunately.

I understand that the outgoing model with the smallest engine may have been £32k but that was for basically a 7 year old car design.
I cant see them starting off as low as that and even £35k seems low to me. Not that I will be able to afford either of those prices.
However to compete with the new tax rules they will have to try and make them under £40k to at least get some of them out the door.

The new tax rule is pretty painful. It reminds of the older stamp duty rules when there was a severe change at £250K (not sure the exact amount), which created a point where it created a bit of a no go area in house pricing immediately above the change in duty rate. I agree, If they are able to get a base model out with desirable options for under £40K then that gives them a big advantage over Porsche and Jaguar.

Remember 911's are now pretty much £100k out of the showroom, and Boxsters are £60kish...it'll try to steal sales from the unloved 718...and will probably be very successful.

I'm not so sure. It will more than likely be berated for the same reasons as the 718 - for being too expensive for a 4 cylinder :D

I think the new F-Type has a problem with that, too.

Agree that the F Type is getting in trouble on the user websites and I was not having a 4cylinder Porsche. With the F Type basically a 300hp 4 cylinder for a few grand less than a V6 supercharged 340hp. Doesn't fit the image of high end sports cars either. Still neither did diesels, hybrids, autos and a whole host of other stuff, but we accept it and will have to on sports cars to allow manufactures to shift metal and comply with Co2 restrictions.

It will be interesting to see where BMW end up taking this between concept and showroom in slimming down to a price point or moving upmarket for less sales but more valuable ones. I think the latter

This confirms both manual and 4 cyl will be available (for those who like that sort of thing).
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

I did smile when I saw this earlier in the year. Hard to believe BMW would not stick that on the dash to increase intrigue or throw people off the scent.
