Jay's Z4 Project :: Updated & Pic Heavy ::

Post by thanatu55 » Sun Jul 09, 2017 9:23 pm

A little introduction, it's time I got myself on here. As mentioned in the Newbies section I've been an avid follower of this forum for quite a while and picked up many great tips along the way, and so I thank everyone who contributes to this project and keeps this great community alive.

The reason I haven't been involved until now is because I've been unwell for a long long time, so despite picking up my little four pot over a year ago I haven't been able to drive it, and therefore couldn't enjoy it in the same way the rest of you have. Instead it became my little hobby, my time out to sculpt something a little more 'me'. I'm very pleased to announce that as of yesterday that all changes. She's passed her MOT, I've got myself insured and I'm back on the road!! :driving:

In light of my new found exuberance I finally feel ready to tell my story...
(I'll try to keep it as light as possible)

So here she stands on day one, a montego blue 2007 facelift 2.0i . You can't see it on here but it had a bit of a botch job repair on the left hand side plus a gear issue that I have yet to see to, meaning I have to start in second rather than first, so I picked it up for half it's potential worth. I told myself that day that this is the day I become a responsible adult BMW driver and all those days of tweaking and modding were behind me. Oh how naive I was.

After sorting out the damage to the passenger side I wanted a little bit more aggression in terms of looks, so I added a front lip diffuser and experimented with some headlight eyebrows. However I wasn't happy, it just didn't look right to me.

There was only one answer for it, I 'needed' a Z4M bumper conversion.

Since I'm already performing a little facial surgery, why not add a headlight halo conversion with a little twist of my own, chasing indicators. I may post a video some other time. Throw a set of HID's in there, a new gunmetal gloss grille and some other bits and pieces.

Now I've got the bug. I started on the rear. I shipped over a Windrestrictor wind deflector from the US which glows red when applying the brake. A fourth brake light if you will. I also swapped the third brake light for a clear one and added an exhaust tip from Amazon to the puny 2.0i exhaust (my third brake light isn't working in these pics for some reason).

Onto the interior, I re-trimmed the door panels in dark navy to match the two gaiters I had purchased earlier. I added a Storm Motorwerks gear knob and handbrake, custom floor mats and a few brushed steel accents here and there to dress it up a little. Oh, I've also just replaced the dials for silver and added some Alpina red stripe pointers.

Back to the outside again I added some Aero skirts and a M'stache front diffuser, and I believe that brings you up to date. Other notable additions include:
- Sprint Booster throttle controller
- Gap-Tech roof module
- e-light Ultimate light module
- JunSun Android mirror (for GPS, reverse camera etc)
- Replaced every bulb with Led's - inside and out
- Purchased some of those side cover things that seem to divide opinion
- eibach spacers - 20 & 15 mil

Today I gave her a good clean, clay, polish and wax and this is the result (so far)...

Well done if you got this far!

Jay's Z4 Project....

Post by thanatu55 » Sun Jul 09, 2017 9:24 pm

So on to future en-devours (some questionable suggestions and some half way there)...

Number one, I really do need to get my alloys restored. Somebody before me seemed to like a good old curb parking. Holding me back from actually doing this is simply down to money. I've spunked my load over so many mods already that I've hit a limit and neglected one of the essentials.

Number two, this is one I'm mulling over at the minute. The reiger rear diffuser. It's already been purchased and currently resides in my garage. If I go ahead it will need molding and smoothing over as I'm not keen on any unsightly lines that look out of place. It's also a nightmare to match up every nook and cranny.

MGP Caliper covers (already purchased). I wanted something that looks clean and tidy, but on first trial the clips that came with them catch, causing an awful racket. I'm currently waiting on them sending some alternative clips, then I'll give them a second go.

A hard top, obviously.

I also considered a Blue Mohair soft top but again, money.

I'm sure this is to be continued as more idea's arise, but for now that's your lot. Thanks for reading

Here's one I forgot about, eyebrows yay or ney?

Well I can see what the OP has done, and very nice it is too.

Glad to hear that you are out and about in the Zed. Must have been a frustrating 12 months.

Enjoy :driving:

Thanks RickRob you're right it's been a nightmare, but without the time out I wouldn't have been able to do as much as I have, so every cloud and all that 8)

I can see the photos no problem at all and a very nice job indeed, I would be a little worried about bottoming that front spoiler though, my zed bottoms at the slightest camber in the road, thank goodness for that undertray. :o :driving: :o

The fake calipers are a bit too much ;) I'd leave that to 1.2 corsas.

That's the one thing I hadn't banked on, and considering I live on an estate full of speed bumps I'm beginning to see the issue :headbang:

Really intrigued about the chasing indicators. Any photos/videos or more info?
