2004 2.5L Z4 no heat!
Hello you wonderful people!
This is my first post! Sorry for no pics (I'm at work). I will make sure I get some up!
I recently purchased my 2004 2.5L Z4 in full working condition (or so i thought!) but since it got colder I have discovered i have no heat in the car!
I've been to a BMW Specialist in Coventry who has replaced the thermostat, given me a new radiator and coolant bottle and ran the diagnostics which showed nothing was wrong. He has now suggested I sell the car, as the last resort is changing the entire dash £££
Has anyone else had this issue?! if so, please give me any advise you have! If i can fix her instead of selling, i would rather do that! She's my daily.
Thanks in advance, Jess

Sounds like your BMW 'specialist' is anything but that! What a stupid suggestion.
Also sounds like your Final Stage Resistor has packed in.

Very odd suggestion - heating not working so sell the car, and presumably don't tell the buyer
Hopefully Chris's suggestion will help, otherwise find yourself another Indy specialist

Can't guarantee that it fixes ur problem but the symptoms sound very similar to something I experienced in an E36 coupe a few years ago. Swapping in a new 'hedgehog' FSR fixed the problem.Bimmergirl90 wrote:Thanks Chris, will check this out!Chris_D wrote:Sounds like your BMW 'specialist' is anything but that! What a stupid suggestion.

I take it the blower works but it just pushes out cold air?
Might also be a good idea to get your codes scanned with a BMW-specific OBD scanner if poss.
I hate to think what your indy charged you for all that work that probably didn't need doing in the first place....?!

Hi, does your fan blow air but only cold air? If so it sounds like the heater rad & not the resistor-the resistors control the fan speeds.Bimmergirl90 wrote:thanks both! I'm going to check the resistor at the weekend

Perhaps they said dash removal to get to the problem? Heater matrix can silt up and block especially if anti leak products have been used. In side the engine bay on the bulkhead are two rubber pipes. One feeds hot air to matrix while the other returns it. One should be very hot. If the matrix is blocked it is possible to flush it via these pipes if the problem is the matrix
