Cheers, just got back from a couple of days in Oz, so look forward to hearing what you recommend.
Minor hold-up on doing this, got completely distracted all weekend. Will post once I have it sorted!! I will definitely do this though, will make the engine bay look so much neater.

Nothing wrong with K&N filters IF your engine has a map-sensor inlet, but the S54 has a Bosch airmassmeter/MAF. This WILL eventually clog up from the oil in the K&N filter, and misread. Just a question of time. :)

I got the engine light on last year, from previous owners using 'very sporty' filters.
cleaned everything up and from now on only dry/paper filters in my car. Engine light out!

It won't if you oil the filter correctly.

I'm afraid the problem is the oil itself.
Obviously K&N tries to tell us different story. Why would they want to sell less?

The problem is very well known in the big world outside this forum.
Some manufacturer's even specifically advices against these filter types, like Opel.
In the Fiat Coupe camp (Bosch Motronic) people tend to use dry "sportfilters" like Apexi etc. Those often highly tuned engines (4-500hp from 2litre) are of course even more sensitive to errors in the Bosch management.

Interesting about your MAFF prob. Its true that K&N have spent quite a bit of time and effort telling us otherwise. They say platinum wire in the sensor is almost microscopic and mostly sealed off if I remember correctly- the pressure needed to remove the oil is not attainable at any speed the car can go at my a very long way. TBH no probs for me so far in the 4 yrs I've had it installed and believe the car sees plenty of action. I've only recently cleaned both my wife Green filter on her Z3 Coupe and the K&N GruppeM on mine, so it will be interesting to see if any problems arise. Just did a 900km round trip with some pretty severe speeds and nothing so far...

Either way I'm rather weary of either manufacturers claims but would trust more people's own experience on this.

Hi mate. I'm not at home with my car very often these days, so I've never had the chance to measure and identify all the visible bolts and nuts in the engine bay. If I can get a breakdown of these I was hoping to look online and identify high quality, aesthetically pleasing alternatives! From somewhere like ProBolt for example.
