Being very new to the ///M I have no experience of oil consumption. I am going on a 2000 plus mile road trip at the weekend and even though it's not an Alpina
I will take oil with me and wondered what it's likely to use in your experience?

I was used to the 1L per 1000-2000 miles of the e34 M5, so expect the Z4M to be similar.
However, in 143,000 miles, I've not used a drop between services - albeit with 6,000 mile oil changes.
I still carry a litre just in case.

Welcome to M Ownership,
Cant say mine has ever really used any. Change my oil every 4-5000 Miles but havent as of yet had to add any inbetween services...
Every car may be different so probably wouldnt harm to take a litre with you as insurance.

I'm going to agree with Kernow.
I've had my Z for about 10 000km's now and already done two oil changes (one before and one after i did the bearings) til this day i drive with 1L of oil in the boot for top ups but i've never had to top up Engine oil in the car even after a 2000km road trip.ect

I change mine every 6000-7000 miles and as others have said mine doesn't use a drop either
I have a spare litre in the boot just in case though

Coming from a rotary Mazda I was used to carry a 5L bottle in the boot, but the S54 does not consume a drop of oil, just shows how well engineered they are! Still have the original 1L bottle in an original bmw bag in the boot.

My 3.0 liked a drop of oil but the M doesn't seem to use any between changes (half intervals). I think it was bedded in well

Both S54 engined cars I've had have never discernibly used any oil. Can't hurt to take a litre spare as others have said, but if the engine really did start drinking oil I would get it onto a flat bed straight away personally.

Just wait until you have done a 2,000 mile road trip in one.
For the record mine doesn't use much oil either.

Mine seemingly doesn't use any between services, the same as my old CSL. The TTRS uses about 1lt every 3k miles.

Mine doesn't use any oil either and it's on 107miles.
If you don't take emergency oil with you you could double the luggage you can get in the boot!

Oil and filter every 4/5k
Used to like other cars carry a litre in boot
Had car for 3 years in June
Let's just say litre lives in the garage haha
Makes room for more cleaning stuff
Fuel however
