I definitely prefer more induction noise, but not at the expense of reducing the exhaust sound. On full throttle the exhaust drowns everything out, but on medium throttle you catch aural glimpses of the intake howl - just not enough of them. Won't take the intake off as I think it's probably balancing the volume a bit, and probably sounds a lot different depending on whether you're a spectator or a driver - as it always sound great when the MOT tester or servicing garage starts it up and drives away.

I had a very basic RamAir filter on my old Corrado VR6 and it sounded awesome - even with a full Milltek exhaust system (which thinking back was nowhere near as loud as the Diablos).

I'd love to get a CSL box & Alpha-N, or possibly the carbon one shown earlier - but if I'm going to save for anything that expensive (after my suspension & brakes) then it will be for a supercharger...assuming the engine has not gone pop by then :P

I'm totally with you on this, I'm always amazed how good it sounds from outside the car!

It is, but how mad would you have to be to risk supercharging a 150k mile S54 engine - or spending more on a mod than the car would be worth

Crazy to the point you don't mind if I goes pop I guess! :o I'm sure whoever fits it would compression test etc to make sure the engine can handle it... A friend had a supercharged E46 M3 for a while which had over 100k on it, had no problems with it and I can testify that it ate up my Z4MC from about 90/100mph onwards!

Been messing with the GoPro again. This time front mounted on the bumper using suction cup.

Edit: missed an underscore off the YouTube reference. The embed should be working now.

This is my effort - I'll let you decide if it's decent or not! Just a few short clips from a drive a few weeks ago. It's just rough GoPro footage. I've done no real editing on it.

Sorry but not wanting to be an arse but that sounds very rough and metallic, sort of tin like rather than a nice melodic induction howl. And I've listened to all videos. Not for me... Whilst, the Gruppe M howls at the top end it is rather a lot of money for a more "urgent" last 2000 revs. It seems very difficult to get this balance of sound correct (exhaust vs induction) and maintaining / gaining an edge on performance. Frankly, I'm not sure any of these systems are really better than OEM. Manufacturers spend zillions on getting such things right and they work. Its horses for courses really and down to individual taste, but does anything this side off an M1 procar or a CSL at full cry sound really better in all conditions than OEM? Nah... Would be nice to put OEM, Evolve, Gruppe M and exhaust mode videos together for a vote.

How about it?

Confused - don't you have a Gruppe M and ACS exhaust ? That's not OEM, so why do you have the set up you do if you think OEM sounds best ? Just asking, not being pokey :D

From listening to all of these i'd still say the videos don't capture it properly. i'd probably describe it as turning the volume up 25% between 3-6krpm from memory.

I don't think a video (especially of go-pro quality) will ever give a true reflection of what an intake really sounds like. For me (and everybody I've spoken to who has heard the intake first hand) there really is no comparison. Videos do not do it justice. Certainly does not sound "tin like" in real life.

Sounds great mate, i heard my buddies coupe down the road who has just done this install, and as previously said, the vids/sound tracks don't do it justice.. it sounds great. hats off to Evolve for bringing a quality product to the market. and its bloody cheap :) nice kit, id have no qualms recommending one if you don't wanna go the whole alpha N hog.

not sure you can put this on the same field as /real mods/ like "Supercharging", but for what its worth, its a darn good sounding kit. hat off to Evolve. :D
