Eventuri VAI Carbon Intake Kit for the Z4M details

Post by Eventuri » Fri Feb 13, 2015 12:36 pm

The Eventuri Z4M Intake System - Details:

The Design Brief:

- Increased HP and Torque under full throttle
- Improved driving under partial load and throttle response
- Uses high quality engineered parts
- Is a fully engineered complete intake solution
- Adds to the driving experience with a purposeful induction note and no loss of low rpm smoothness
- Affordable
- Standalone upgrade which requires no tuning or MAF removal

The development of the S54 intake system started in early 2014 with preliminary tests carried out on 4 individual cars. Some cars were stock, others had performance parts fitted.

Our aim was to bring a high quality kit to the market with the REAL results. After many months of development we are happy to announce the Eventuri Intake System for the S54 engine and now specifically for the Z4M, which meets our design brief and provides genuine improvement not just in peak power but in throttle response and smoothness.

The Eventuri Difference

The Eventuri system uses our unique Carbon fibre Housing which provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the MAF tube. Most intake systems use a cone filter with a type of shroud as a heat shield. In this configuration the filter is doing the job of shaping the airflow to the MAF tube and this is where restrictions arise as the airlfow has to negotiate a sharp reduction in diameter from the base of the filter to the MAF tube. In the Eventuri system, the filter is inverted and decoupled from the MAF tube - the carbon housing itself dictates the shape of the airflow by smoothly reducing in diameter from the filter to the MAF tube. Here - the entire carbon fibre housing is a Venturi where the airflow increases in velocity as the cross sectional area smoothly reduces. As this is essentially a large funnel - the airflow remains laminar and therefore minimises the drag of the system.

The result is an immediate improvement in throttle response, smoother power delivery and more power across the rpm range - not just at the peak. Furthermore - this intake releases the engine note for a more pronounced induction roar under full throttle.

Components

Each component is engineered for a purpose and to a very high standard. Each Z4M System consists of:

- 100% Prepreg Carbon Fibre Intake Housing
- Aluminium inlet cowling
- High Flow Filter
- CNC Machined MAF tube
- Laser Cut and Powder Coated Aluminium Scoop
- Aluminum heat shield with neoprene lining
- High quality Silicon coupler with BMW spec hose clamps

Carbon Housing Assembly

Image

Made from 100% prepreg carbon fibre of the highest quality, the workmanship on the housing is second to none. This is mated to an anodised aluminum inlet cowl to ensure a smooth inlet flow path. Finally the assembly is then mated to an aluminium heat shield which is insulated with neoprene and effectively shrouds the intake from engine bay heat and encapsulates the ambient air being diverted from the scoop. Finally we have also incorporated a clip to secure the coolant hose.

MAF tube:

The MAF tube is CNC machined from aluminum and then anodised. The MAF boss itself is machined from an engineering plastic to minimise the heat soak into the sensor through conduction. We have incorporated a machined recess on one side to allow the OEM rubber gasket from the stock airbox to be used for a perfect seal into the stock elbow.

Cold Air Scoop

Image

Image

Laser Cut from Aluminium and then powder coated - the Z4M air scoop directs ambient air directly into the filter opening and effectively keeps IAT's down. Unlike other aftermarket scoops - there is no drilling required to install. This scoop simply clicks into place using the factory hole locations and the supplied push rivets.

Dyno Results

Below is a dyno graph showing the comparison between the Eventuri and the stock airbox on a completely standard car with standard map. As you can see, power and torque are increased throughout the rev range and the power curve is even smoother than factory. This translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline.

IAT Testing Stock vs Eventuri

The below graph shows Inlet Air Temperature logged through the OBDII whilst dyno testing the stock airbox vs Eventuri back to back. As you can see the Eventuri Intake keeps the temperature consistently lower than the stock airbox. This is a key element along with the increased airflow to ensuring consistent power gains.

Some of our customers quotes:

"It feels like it's in M Sport mode without the sport button being pressed!"

"Smooth and Buttery. That's how it feels."

"The Eventuri intake just sounds in-tune.... you can almost hear the harmonics of the air entering the plenum / engine"

"So the most noticeable thing abut this kit is how much difference it makes to throttle response. It has improved so much it is hard NOT to notice.

"This is how it should have felt from factory!"

This certainly looks a well-engineered item and the materials seem to be of a particularly high standard/finish.

My only reservation is that no mention has been made of the most important part of the kit – the filter.

I remember reading somewhere that it is a dry (presumably because of the MAF) Simota filter. Do you have any details on the filtration properties and in particular total particle filtration efficiency figure?
As the kit is using a scoop to channel more air in at a higher rate I would want to be confident of the filtration capabilities of the element.

Looking forward to hearing more details.

Said it before and will say it again, it looks a decent bit of kit and reasonably well priced

The filter itself is a deep pleated Cotton type filter made by Simota and is a very well constructed filter. It has been used for a number of years in BMW specific applications by Simota and has been tried and tested which is why we chose it for our system. I can get more technical information for your interest too.

The scoop does direct ambient air onto the filter opening however since the path from the scoop to the filter isn't straight - heavier particles tend to hit the scoop rather than follow the path into the filter. The rest is then taken care of by the filter.

We will be having an open day soon where you guys can have a look in person at the kit and we will be there to explain the design and demonstrate how it differs so much from the other aftermarket systems available - ie it's not just another cone filter with a heat shield. :)

Thanks for the speedy response.

I will look forward to the more detailed information regarding the filter element itself. I am tempted. :D

Would be very interested in the open day

This may be a very silly question (and I apologise for my complete lack of technical knowledge), but presumably with the scoop protruding so much behind the grille, would you have to take extra care when cleaning the car with say a pressure washer / hose?

Kit looks great, but I already have a Gruppe M :driving:

Any plans to sell the scoop separately?

Also, what about remaps for the S54 in the Z4M.

looks great, just wondering how the complete unit is secured while its all connected up? is their a metal strap connected somewhere to the front slam panel?

The heat shield has a bracket which secures to the front slam panel with an existing 13mm nut. It's a very strong mounting point and keeps the system secure.

You won't have any issues with washing the car - the scoop is powder coated so is well protected from washing.

Testing with the RPI scoop was done which is similar with high pressure hoses into it.

Nothing reaches the filter housing, no matter how you try.

Hello All,

just thought i would leave a short note as i received my Eventuri kit a couple of days back.

Firstly it looks amazing the quality is excellent. Installation is very simple took me approx 30 mins and im by no means a mechanic.

Performance increase can definitely be felt all through the rev range, but the thing i found most noticeable was how smooth the car felt. Literally feel like a different beast all together.

The sound is addictive, you will find you MPG drops considerably due to flooring the gas all the time!

All in all very pleased with my purchase so a big thumbs up
